Congo DR upset Cape Verde to tie both records at 1-1. Congo DR grabbed a 70-66 win in Round 2 of the AfroBasket 2021.
After the exciting win against Angola, Cape Verde lost the opening period 12-17, however replied with a 22-18 run in the second frame. Congo DR meanwhile dominated the third quarter and after a 21-13 surge, clinched the win, despite the narrow loss in the last stanza.
Henry Pwono (198-F-91, college: ECU) top-scored for the winners with 19 points and Maxi Munanga (191-G-93) as well as Patrick Mwamba (196-F-99) had 12 points each. Joel Almeida (195-F-85, college: Brockport St.) answered with 18 points in a loss, whilst Ivan Almeida (198-SF-89, college: Stonehill) brought 16.
