Nigeria overcame Mali in Group C opener at the AfroBasket 2021. The 2017 runners-up beat Mali 81-73 for 1-0 record.
Nigeria nailed massive 28 points in the opening frame, while Mali replied with massive 31 in the second frame. Once again the teams exchanged big wins in the second half that gave Nigeria total 8-point win.
Ben Emelogu (196-G-94, college: SMU) top-scored for the winners with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Stephen Domingo (201-G-95, college: California) netted 16, whilst Daniel Utomi (198-G-97, college: USC, agency: Slash Sports) scored 15. Ibrahim Djambo (208-F-92, college: Hofstra) replied with 18 in a loss, whilst Benke Diarouma (198-F-95), Siriman Kanoute (181-PG-01) and Mamadou Keita (192-G-93) had 11 each.
