NBL Round 15 (Regular Season): UCU Ladies beat Miracle in a derby game

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kampala: UCU Ladies (#4) and Miracle (#6). Miracle was crushed at home by 30 points 62-92 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. UCU Ladies held Miracle to an opponent 22.8 percent shooting from the field compared to 39.5 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Miracle 58-35 including a 40-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. UCU Ladies looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Sylvia Nantongo (-2004) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. The former international Shakirah Nanvubya (-2000) chipped in 9 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. UCU Ladies' coach felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Akello Winnifred (-2001) who recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. UCU Ladies (11-3) moved-up to third place. Miracle at the other side keeps the sixth position with six games lost. UCU Ladies' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kampala to the arena KIU Rangers.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Kampala: JKL Dolphins (#1) and KCCA Leopards (#4). JKL Dolphins (14-1) crushed visiting KCCA Leopards (10-3) by 22 points 69-47. It was a good game for the former international power forward Hope Akello (183-1997) who led her team to a victory with 7 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Ritah Imanishimwe contributed with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Guard Amoding Moreen (-1990) answered with 22 points for KCCA Leopards. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. JKL Dolphins have an impressive series of fourteen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 14-1 record. KCCA Leopards at the other side keep the fourth position with three games lost. JKL Dolphins will play against YMCA Hamstars (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. KCCA Leopards' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kampala to the arena Nabisunsa.

A1 Challenge was defeated at home 46-53 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It was a great evening for Lilian Cherotich who led her team to a victory scoring 8 points, 19 rebounds and 8 blocks. The best for the losing side was Cathy Kekimuli with 10 points and 5 rebounds. A1 Challenge's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Miracle maintains sixth place with 9-6 record. Loser A1 Challenge dropped to the ninth position with ten games lost. Miracle's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kampala Magic Stormers.

Other games of round 15 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
KIU Rangers crushed Lady Tomahawks in Kampala 82-51. Winless Kampala Uni was smashed by YMCA Hamstars at home 51-72. JTL Jaguars destroyed A1 Challenge on the opponent's court 62-43. Winless Kampala Uni was outscored by KIU Rangers in a home game 44-96. Lady Tomahawks managed to beat Miracle on the road 68-59.
The best stats of 15th round was 10 points and 11 rebounds by Stella Lunkuse of Lady Tomahawks.

There was no surprise in Kampala where 9th ranked Lady Tomahawks (5-11) were crushed by second ranked KIU Rangers (12-2) 82-51 on Wednesday. KIU Rangers forced 23 Lady Tomahawks turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for forward Sharon Kirabo (170-1996) who led her team to a victory scoring 16 points and 7 rebounds. Mary Amaniyo (180-2003) helped adding 13 points and 8 rebounds. Four KIU Rangers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Stella Lunkuse (-1998) with 6 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Dorah Nakijjoba scored 10 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for KIU Rangers. They maintain second place with 12-2 record having just three points less than leader JKL Dolphins. Lady Tomahawks lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the eighth position with 11 games lost. No shocking result in a game when tenth ranked YMCA Hamstars (3-12) smashed on the road bottom-ranked Kampala Uni (0-13) 72-51 on Saturday. YMCA Hamstars dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Kampala Uni's 34. YMCA Hamstars forced 24 Kampala Uni turnovers. It was a great evening for Akello Scovia who led her team to a victory scoring 25 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Njeru Agnes helped adding 10 points and 14 rebounds. Coach 's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was Victoria Nalwanga with 14 points and 6 rebounds and Josephine Alimochan scored 12 points and 6 rebounds.
