JKL Dolphins (12-1) recorded its first loss in Kampala on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by third ranked KIU Rangers (9-2) 55-50. It ended at the same time the 12-game winning streak of JKL Dolphins. KIU Rangers held JKL Dolphins to an opponent 21.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 27.6 percent accuracy of the winners. Mary Amaniyo (180-2003) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points and 19 rebounds for the winners. Guard Ines Kanyamunza chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. The former international power forward Hope Akello (183-1997) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 23 rebounds for lost side. KIU Rangers have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain third place with 9-2 record having five points less than leader JKL Dolphins. Defending champion JKL Dolphins still keep top position with one game lost. KIU Rangers are looking forward to face YMCA Hamstars (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Kampala: UCU Ladies (#3) and KIU Rangers (#3). UCU Ladies (9-3) crushed visiting KIU Rangers (9-2) by 20 points 66-46. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of KIU Rangers. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Shakirah Nanvubya (-2000) who helped to win the game recording 15 points. Shillah Lamunu contributed with 6 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Center Patricia Alado (-1994) answered with 5 points and 9 rebounds for KIU Rangers. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for UCU Ladies. Despite that victory UCU Ladies went down to fourth position due to points difference. KIU Rangers at the other side keep the third place with two games lost. Lady Tomahawks were crushed at home by 17 points 54-71 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Becky Longom stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. At the losing side Dorah Nakijjoba responded with 5 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the twelfth consecutive win for JKL Dolphins. Defending champion maintains first place with 12-1 record. Newly promoted Lady Tomahawks keep the eighth position with eight games lost. They share it with A1 Challenge.
