Patriots recorded a loss in Kigali on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by UGB 73-69. UGB forced 19 Patriots turnovers. The best player for the winners was French-Central African power forward Steven-Emile Perriere (203-1995, college: LMU) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 19 rebounds. Burundian center Mohamed Doumbya (-1997) chipped in 22 points and 14 rebounds. UGB's coach Yves Murenzi used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. International Steven Hagumintwari (198-1993) produced 23 points for the hosts.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Kigali: Orion and Kepler. Orion won against visiting Kepler 87-81. American point guard Jeffery Stubbs (189-1991, college: Jackson St., agency: MSG) orchestrated the victory by scoring 35 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Kennedy Garba contributed with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Canadian guard Chad Bowie (188-1996, college: SHSU) replied with 30 points and 4 steals for Kepler. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
Another interesting game was again a derby between two local teams from Kigali: REG and Espoir. REG smashed visiting Espoir by 34 points 92-58. Cleveland Thomas scored 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners. Eric Muhayumukiza responded with 17 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.
Rest of the games of round 2 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
