AfroBasket 2023: Egypt outlast Congo DR to gain first win in Group D

Congo DR - Egypt 78-89

Egypt claimed the first win at the 2023 AfroBasket. They outgunned Congo DR in the opener. Nadine Soliman (178-G-1998, college: UNCG) came up with 34 points and 10 rebounds to pace the winners.
Egypt grabbed a 23-12 lead after ten minutes. Congo DR picked up the tempo in the second period. They pulled within 6 points at the interval 32-38. Congo DR sank 29 points in the third quarter to erase the deficit. But Egypt found the way to bounce back. They unloaded 28 points in the fourth stanza and rallied to the win. Meral Abdelgawad (180-G-1998, college: WKU) posted 16 points in the victory. Mariana Muadi (187-C-1996, agency: LBM Management) answered with 21 points and 10 rebounds for Congo DR as they slipped at 0-2 record.
