NBL Round 18 (Regular Season): Derby game ends with Rezlife S.'s defeat of UCU Canons

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kampala: Rezlife S. (#3) and UCU Canons (#7). Rezlife S. (6-2) won against visiting UCU Canons (4-3) 73-61. Rezlife S. forced 21 UCU Canons turnovers. It was a good game for guard Elvis Ssentongo (-1999) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Hon Kwany contributed with 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Jimmy Otim (-1999) replied with 21 points and 5 rebounds for UCU Canons. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rezlife S. maintains third position with 6-2 record having just two points less than leader City Oilers. UCU Canons at the other side keep the seventh place with three games lost.
NBL top team - City Oilers (8-0) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat eleventh ranked UMU (2-8) in Kampala 69-59. The former international point guard Fayed Baale (173-2001) scored 21 points to lead the charge for the winners and Landry Ndikumana chipped in 11 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Joshua Duallo (-1998) with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 blocks. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Undefeated City Oilers have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 8-0 record. Newly promoted UMU keeps the eleventh place with eight games lost.
The game between second ranked Blazers (7-1) and 12th ranked UPDF (1-8) in Kampala on Saturday ended with biggest points difference. Blazers outscored guests from Kampala 106-68. Peter Obleng notched 26 points to lead the effort. Even 20 points by Kevin Kasobya did not help to save the game for UPDF. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Blazers have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 7-1 record behind leader City Oilers. UPDF lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom place with eight games lost.

In the last two games of round 18 KCCA P. beat Kampala R. on the road 68-64. Sommet destroyed Kampala R. on its own court 90-62.
The most impressive performance of 18th round was 14 points and 9 rebounds by Arthur Wanyoto of Blazers.




Kampala R. - KCCA P. 64-68

The game between closely ranked teams ended with eighth ranked KCCA P.'s (5-4) road victory over 9th ranked Kampala R. (2-7) 68-64 on Sunday. KCCA P. forced 19 Kampala R. turnovers and outrebounded them 54-34 including a 22-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Stanley Mugerwa notched 9 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and Omar Waleed supported him with 13 points. Even 18 points and 9 rebounds by Mpiya Juf did not help to save the game for Kampala R.. Francis Kasinde added 11 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. KCCA P. moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Victoria Crocs. Kampala R. lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with seven games lost. They share it with JKL Dolphins.
