NBL Round 29 (Regular Season): City Oilers keep a leadership position

The Regular Season in NBL is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 3 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked City Oilers as it allowed them to take a leadership position. City Oilers smashed 9th ranked JKL Dolphins in Kampala 85-33. City Oilers held JKL Dolphins to an opponent 20.3 percent shooting from the field compared to 52.2 percent accuracy of the winners. City Oilers forced 21 JKL Dolphins turnovers and outrebounded them 57-14 including a 18-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. City Oilers looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by JKL Dolphins' players. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Jonathan Komagum (205-1998, college: SE Louisiana) who had a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds. The former international forward Edgar Munaba (196-1999) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. Sentamu Hasan produced 8 points for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. JKL Dolphins lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 15 games lost. JKL Dolphins will play next round against Kampala R. trying to get back on the winning streak. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kampala - Kampala R.. City Oilers will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Sommet. It will be extra interesting game as Sommet is their local rival from Kampala.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Kampala: Victoria Crocs (#7) and KCCA P. (#5). Victoria Crocs (10-9) won against visiting KCCA P. (11-9) 64-58. Chuol Nyuot orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Cyrus Wobusobozi contributed with 8 points and 6 assists for the winners. Forward Emmanuel Odongkara (-1989) answered with 8 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for KCCA P.Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Victoria Crocs have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain seventh place with 10-9 record. KCCA P. at the other side keeps the fifth position with nine games lost. They share it with Sommet. Victoria Crocs' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kampala to the arena Blazers.

Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains second place with 17-2 record behind leader City Oilers. Loser Sommet dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. They share it with KCCA P.. Blazers' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kampala Victoria Crocs.

Another exciting game was again a derby between two local teams from Kampala: Blazers (#2) and Sommet (#7). They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Sommet's players. DR Congolese forward Franck Nyembo (200-2006) stepped up and scored 30 points and 5 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners and Nigerian forward Anthony Chukwubuka (202-1994) chipped in 7 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Peter Cheng responded with 19 points and 8 rebounds and Galiwango Brighton (-2006) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Jaguars - UPDF 51-56

There was a minor upset in Kampala where 8th ranked Jaguars (6-12) were defeated by eleventh ranked UPDF (4-14) 56-51 on Saturday. UPDF forced 21 Jaguars turnovers. Peter Akok stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and Godwin Muhamireho chipped in 9 points and 10 rebounds. Tanzanian forward Chuma Fadhili (-1995) responded with 8 points and 8 rebounds and Ian Lubwama scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. UPDF moved-up to tenth place. Jaguars lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 12 games lost. Rezlife S. dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Kampala R.'s 30. Rezlife S. forced 33 Kampala R. turnovers.
