NBL Round 21 (Regular Season): UCU Ladies beat Magic Stormers in a derby game

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kampala: UCU Ladies (#2) and Magic Stormers (#6). UCU Ladies (17-4) won against visiting Magic Stormers (10-10) 69-64. UCU Ladies forced 32 Magic Stormers turnovers. The best player for the winners was Shillah Lamunu who scored 12 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Aziida Nabayunga (-2000) chipped in 10 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Christine Nakito who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 16 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. UCU Ladies have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 17-4 record having seven points less than leader JKL Dolphins. Magic Stormers at the other side keep the sixth position with ten games lost.

KCCA Leopards were crushed at home by 22 points 56-78 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It was a good game for Mary Amaniyo (180-2003) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds. Ines Kanyamunza contributed with 16 points and 7 assists for the winners. Margaret Bagaala answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for KCCA Leopards. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. KIU Rangers have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place. KCCA Leopards at the other side dropped to the fourth position with six games lost.
Leader JKL Dolphins delivered the twenty second victory on Saturday night. This time they crushed bottom-ranked Kampala Uni (0-20) 105-27. Brenda Ekone stepped up and scored 21 points for the winners. JKL Dolphins' coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Victoria Nalwanga with 12 points and 6 rebounds. JKL Dolphins (22-1) have an impressive series of twenty two victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place. Loser Kampala Uni still closes the standings.

Other games of round 21 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
YMCA Hamstars defeated Magic Stormers in a road game 72-55. Lady Tomahawks beat Nabisunsa at home 69-58. KCCA Leopards destroyed YMCA Hamstars on the opponent's court 75-49. KIU Rangers managed to outperform A1 Challenge in a home game 76-60.

KCCA Leopards - KIU Rangers 56-78

Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Kampala: KIU Rangers (#5) and KCCA Leopards (#3). KCCA Leopards were crushed at home by 22 points 56-78 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. KIU Rangers forced 28 KCCA Leopards turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. KIU Rangers brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was a good game for Mary Amaniyo (180-2003) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Ines Kanyamunza contributed with 16 points and 7 assists for the winners. Margaret Bagaala answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and guard Perus Nyamwenge added 10 points in the effort for KCCA Leopards. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. KIU Rangers have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place. KCCA Leopards at the other side dropped to the fourth position with six games lost.

Magic Stormers - YMCA Hamstars 55-72

There was an upset in Kampala where higher ranked Magic Stormers (10-10) were defeated by tenth ranked YMCA Hamstars (4-15) 72-55 on Saturday. YMCA Hamstars forced 26 Magic Stormers turnovers. Rose Musundi stepped up and scored 30 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and Akello Scovia chipped in 17 points and 13 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Martha Nakalemba with 12 points and forward Daphine Adong scored 8 points. Magic Stormers' coach rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Newly promoted YMCA Hamstars maintains tenth place with 4-15 record. Loser Magic Stormers keep the sixth position with ten games lost.

Leader JKL Dolphins delivered the twenty second victory on Saturday night. This time they crushed bottom-ranked Kampala Uni (0-20) 105-27. JKL Dolphins held Kampala Uni to an opponent 16.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 46.2 percent accuracy of the winners. JKL Dolphins forced 24 Kampala Uni turnovers and outrebounded them 44-30 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international guard Brenda Ekone (152-1996) stepped up and scored 21 points for the winners and Miriam Senade chipped in 17 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). No shocking result in a game in Kampala where eighth ranked Lady Tomahawks (8-13) defeated 11th ranked Nabisunsa (2-18) 69-58 on Saturday. Lady Tomahawks outrebounded Nabisunsa 34-21 including 24 on the defensive glass. Forward Dorah Nakijjoba stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and guard Stella Lunkuse (-1998) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Keturah Auma with 18 points and 5 rebounds and guard Sarah Namale (-2005) scored 13 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Newly promoted Lady Tomahawks maintains eighth place with 8-13 record. Nabisunsa lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the eleventh position with 18 games lost.

Margaret Bagaala stepped up and scored 20 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and guard Amoding Moreen (-1990) chipped in 11 points and 5 rebounds. Coach 's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Rather predictable result in Kampala where fifth ranked KIU Rangers (15-3) beat 9th ranked A1 Challenge (5-15) 76-60 on Sunday. KIU Rangers forced 22 A1 Challenge turnovers. Mary Amaniyo (180-2003) stepped up and scored 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and forward Racheal Nanyonga chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds. Four KIU Rangers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Stella Kiberenge with 14 points and 9 rebounds and guard Yaweh Precious (-1999) scored 13 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for KIU Rangers. They moved-up to third place. A1 Challenge lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 15 games lost.
