NBL Round 16: KIU Titans beat JKL Dolphins in a derby game- July 13, 2022

Falcons - City Oilers 74-122 Second ranked City Oilers blasted bottom-ranked Falcons (0-18) in Kampala 122-74. Falcons is still unable to win any game. City Oilers forced 29 Falcons turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Ceaser Kizito who helped to win the game recording 30 points and 5 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Nigerian Francis Azolibe contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Jurua Vinnie replied with 20 points and Mark Ngobi added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Falcons. Five City Oilers and four Falcons players scored in double figures. Defending champion (14-3) keeps a position of league leader. Falcons at the other side still closes the standings. City Oilers will play against KCCA P. (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Falcons' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kampala KIU Titans. UPDF forced 29 Ndejje Angels turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Ndejje Angels' players. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman David Okello (-1997) who helped to win the game recording 36 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Ferdinand Odama (-1995) who added 28 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. At the losing side Samuel Ajak (198-1999) responded with 17 points and 6 rebounds and Joseph Kumbai scored 9 points and 11 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. UPDF have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. Loser Ndejje Angels keep the eleventh position with 12 games lost. UPDF will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. JKL Dolphins were smashed at home by 28 points 56-84 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. KIU Titans made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 29 JKL Dolphins turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by JKL Dolphins' players. Okoth Henry fired 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Edgar Munaba chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 18 rebounds. Four KIU Titans players scored in double figures. KIU Titans' coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mabor Makol produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds and Ayiik Ayong added 26 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. KIU Titans (10-9) moved-up to seventh place. JKL Dolphins at the other side dropped to the eighth position with nine games lost. Seventh ranked KCCA P. (10-8) got a very close victory on the road over 10th ranked Tropical R. (6-12). KCCA P. managed to escape with a 2-point win 75-73 on Wednesday evening. KCCA P. forced 22 Tropical R. turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Emmanuel Odongkara (-1989) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds and Akok Nyong (-1996) who added 12 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Allan Nandala responded with 27 points and 9 rebounds and Isaac Katumba scored 9 points and 17 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. KCCA P. moved-up to sixth place. Newly promoted Tropical R. keeps the tenth position with 12 games lost. KCCA P. will meet at home league's leader City Oilers in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Tropical R. will play against Betway Power (#3) and hope to secure a win.
