D1 Round 8 (Regular Season): RP-IPRC Huye is defeated by REG

What a coincidence that all visitors won their games. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most important game in the last round took place in Butare between second ranked RP-IPRC Huye (6-2) and fourth ranked REG (6-1) on Saturday night. RP-IPRC Huye was crushed by REG at home 86-52. It was a key game for the second position in the league. REG dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to RP-IPRC Huye's 32. REG forced 43 RP-IPRC Huye turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Gloriose Byukusenge (-2001) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals and the former international Sandrine Mushikiwabo (182-1995) who added 14 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. point guard Stella Dusingizumuremyi (154-2003) responded with 9 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. REG have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to second place. RP-IPRC Huye at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. They share it with APR.
Bottom-ranked UR Kigali (0-10) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their tenth consecutive match to ninth ranked GSMRR (3-5) 65-53. The winners were led by Rachel Gikundiro (169-2006) who had that evening a triple-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 10 steals and Marie Yamfashije supported her with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Even 15 points and 7 rebounds by point guard Bonheur Niyigena did not help to save the game for UR Kigali. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. GSMRR moved-up to eighth place. UR Kigali at the other side still closes the standings with ten games lost.
The game in Gahini supposed to be also quite interesting. Fourth ranked APR (6-2) played at the court of 8th ranked Gahini (2-6). APR smashed Gahini 85-48 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Assouma Uwizeye who had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 17 rebounds. Aline Uwimana produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. APR moved-up to third place, which they share with RP-IPRC Huye. Gahini lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with six games lost.

In the last two games of round 8 GSMRR won against Gahini on the opponent's court 66-61. UR BBC was outscored by EA Univ in a home game 61-82.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 41 points (!!!), 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals by Yvonne Muhawenimana of EA Univ.

Gahini - APR 48-85

The game in Gahini supposed to be also quite interesting. Fourth ranked APR (6-2) played at the court of 8th ranked Gahini (2-6). APR smashed Gahini 85-48 on Saturday. APR held Gahini to an opponent 21.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 35.2 percent accuracy of the winners. APR forced 24 Gahini turnovers and outrebounded them 67-41 including a 29-13 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was international center Assouma Uwizeye (182-1996) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 17 rebounds. The former international center Charlotte Umugwaneza (195-1984) chipped in a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 rebounds.
