NBL Round 26 (Regular Season): Blazers beat Jaguars in a derby game

The Regular Season in NBL is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 6 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kampala: Blazers (#2) and Jaguars (#8). Jaguars were smashed at home by 27 points 66-93 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Blazers looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Jaguars' players. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Peter Obleng (190-2003) who scored 19 points and 5 rebounds. DR Congolese forward Franck Nyembo (200-2006) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Blazers' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Peter Sifuma (-1996) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds for the hosts. Blazers (15-2) have an impressive 15-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position behind leader City Oilers. Jaguars at the other side keep the eighth place with ten games lost. Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Kampala: UCU Canons (#5) and Sommet (#6). Sommet was defeated at home 55-67 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Jimmy Otim (-1999) orchestrated the victory by scoring 12 points. Flore Dushime contributed with 11 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. John Teko replied with 12 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for Sommet. Sommet's coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. UCU Canons have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. Sommet lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with eight games lost. Kampala R. lost eleventh consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 15 games lost. In the last game of round 26 Blazers crushed UPDF in Kampala 71-50.

There was no surprise in Kampala where 11th ranked UPDF (3-12) was crushed by second ranked Blazers (15-2) 71-50 on Saturday. Blazers forced 27 UPDF turnovers and outrebounded them 52-41 including 19 on the offensive glass. Nigerian forward Anthony Chukwubuka (202-1994) had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the former international James Okello (193-1990) chipped in 11 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals during the contest. Four Blazers players scored in double figures. Coach 's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players saving starting five for next games.
