NBL Round 30 (Regular Season): Kampala R. beat UCU Canons by one after a very close game

The most exciting game of round 30 in the NBL took place in Kampala. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked UCU Canons (13-10) to fourth ranked Kampala R. (14-9) 50-49 in the game for the fourth place. Kampala R. forced 20 UCU Canons turnovers. Strangely UCU Canons outrebounded Kampala R. 48-36 including a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for power forward Puati Kikomba who saved his team from a defeat with 7 points and 8 rebounds. Brian Opio contributed with 8 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Kampala R.'s coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Lwabaga Ibanda replied with 12 points and 8 rebounds for UCU Canons. Kampala R. maintains fourth position with 14-9 record. UCU Canons at the other side keep the fifth place with ten games lost.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Kampala: Sommet (#3) and KCCA P. (#8). Sommet (15-8) won against visiting KCCA P. (12-12) 74-64. Forward Peter Cheng had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 21 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Franck Nyembo chipped in 17 points and 15 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was forward Caesar Kizito (-1988) with 18 points. KCCA P.'s coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sommet moved-up to second place. KCCA P. lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 12 games lost.

It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Rezlife S.. Ochera Innocent notched 13 points to lead the effort. Blazers' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 9 points and 16 rebounds by Akena Desire did not help to save the game for Rezlife S.. Blazers have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 20-3 record. Newly promoted Rezlife S. keeps the seventh place with 11 games lost.

In the last game of round 30 Sommet beat KCCA P. on the road 75-58.



Sommet - KCCA P. 74-64

Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Kampala: Sommet (#3) and KCCA P. (#8). Sommet (15-8) won against visiting KCCA P. (12-12) 74-64. Sommet forced 21 KCCA P. turnovers. Forward Peter Cheng had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 21 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and DR Congolese forward Franck Nyembo (200-2006) chipped in 17 points and 15 rebounds during the contest. Four Sommet players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Caesar Kizito (-1988) with 18 points and Stanley Mugerwa scored 10 points and 9 rebounds. Another interesting game was again a derby between two local teams from Kampala: Blazers (#1) and Rezlife S. (#7). Blazers (20-3) won against visiting Rezlife S. (12-11) 54-41. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Rezlife S.. Blazers held Rezlife S. to an opponent 21.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 31.2 percent accuracy of the winners. Blazers forced 20 Rezlife S. turnovers. The former international guard Ochera Innocent (-1997) notched 13 points to lead the effort and the former international Tonny Drileba (183-1993) supported him with 4 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Blazers' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 9 points and 16 rebounds by Akena Desire did not help to save the game for Rezlife S.. DR Congolese forward Franck Nyembo (200-2006) notched a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort and John Teko supported him with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Four Sommet players scored in double figures. Even 15 points and 7 rebounds by forward Caesar Kizito (-1988) did not help to save the game for KCCA P..
