NBL Round 10 (Regular Season): Derby game ends with UCU Canons' defeat of JKL Dolphins

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kampala: UCU Canons (#6) and JKL Dolphins (#7). UCU Canons (5-3) smashed visiting JKL Dolphins (4-4) by 29 points 82-53. UCU Canons dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to JKL Dolphins' 22. UCU Canons forced 21 JKL Dolphins turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Flore Dushime who helped to win the game recording 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Lwabaga Ibanda contributed with 16 points for the winners. Center Phillip Ameny (-1989) replied with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for JKL Dolphins. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. UCU Canons have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. JKL Dolphins at the other side dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with Victoria C.. Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Kampala: KCCA P. (#3) and Victoria C. (#6). KCCA P. (6-2) smashed visiting Victoria C. (4-4) by 25 points 68-43. The former international center Ivan Lumanyika (205-1992) scored 8 points and 17 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Emmanuel Odongkara chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Cedric Alema responded with 7 points and 5 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. KCCA P. maintains third position with 6-2 record having four points less than leader Blazers. Newly promoted Victoria C. keeps the sixth place with four games lost. Rezlife S. was defeated at home 49-55 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Kevin Moru notched 22 points to lead the effort. Even a double-double of 10 points and 17 rebounds by Acinbaai Apugi did not help to save the game for Rezlife S.. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Jaguars have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 7-2 record having just two points less than leader Blazers. Newly promoted Rezlife S. keeps the fifth place with five games lost. Jaguars' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kampala to the arena Sommet.

Other games in round 10 were not that significant. Blazers smashed Sommet on the road 91-62. City Oilers destroyed KIU Titans on its own court 78-40. JKL Dolphins managed to outperform City Oilers in Kampala 64-62. Sommet managed to beat KIU Titans at home 77-60.
The most impressive performance of 10th round was 8 points and 11 rebounds by Tong Obde of Jaguars.



Sommet - Blazers 62-91

No shocking result in a game when top-ranked Blazers (9-0) crushed 10th ranked Sommet (3-5) in Kampala 91-62 on Saturday. Blazers outrebounded Sommet 42-28 including 29 on the defensive glass. The former international guard Peter Obleng (190-2003) notched 16 points and 7 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international guard Ochera Innocent (-1997) supported him with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Five Blazers players scored in double figures. Even 12 points and 5 rebounds by Hon Kwany did not help to save the game for Sommet. John Teko added 8 points and 7 rebounds for lost side.
