NBL Round 13 (Regular Season): KIU Rangers keep a leadership position

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked KIU Rangers as it allowed them to take a leadership position. KIU Rangers defeated their biggest opponent JKL Dolphins in Kampala 55-50. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of JKL Dolphins. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. KIU Rangers held JKL Dolphins to an opponent 21.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 27.6 percent accuracy of the winners. Worth to mention a great performance of Mary Amaniyo (180-2003) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 19 rebounds. Guard Ines Kanyamunza contributed with 12 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. The former international power forward Hope Akello (183-1997) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 23 rebounds for JKL Dolphins. KIU Rangers (9-2) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with KCCA Leopards and UCU Ladies. Defending champion JKL Dolphins still keep top place with one game lost.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Kampala: UCU Ladies (#4) and KIU Rangers (#3). UCU Ladies (9-2) crushed visiting KIU Rangers (9-2) by 20 points 66-46. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of KIU Rangers. The former international Shakirah Nanvubya (-2000) stepped up and scored 15 points for the winners and Shillah Lamunu chipped in 6 points and 12 rebounds. At the losing side center Patricia Alado (-1994) responded with 5 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for UCU Ladies. They moved-up to second place, which they share with KCCA Leopards and KIU Rangers.
Bottom-ranked Kampala Uni is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 11th consecutive match to sixth ranked JTL Jaguars (7-3) 53-37 on Sunday evening. Mercy Batamuliza nailed a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Victoria Nalwanga came up with 13 points and 5 steals for Kampala Uni in the defeat. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for JTL Jaguars. They moved-up to fifth place. Kampala Uni lost their eleventh game in a row. They still close the standings with 11 games lost.

In the last two games of round 13 A1 Challenge smashed YMCA Hamstars on the road 82-57. JKL Dolphins destroyed YMCA Hamstars on its own court 94-49.
The most impressive performance of 13th round was 4 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals by Bridget Aber of UCU Ladies.

YMCA Hamstars - A1 Challenge 57-82

The game between closely ranked teams ended with ninth ranked A1 Challenge's (3-8) road victory over 10th ranked YMCA Hamstars (2-10) 82-57 on Saturday. A1 Challenge dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to YMCA Hamstars' 30. A1 Challenge forced 25 YMCA Hamstars turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by YMCA Hamstars' players. Stella Kiberenge nailed a double-double by scoring 31 points, 22 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and guard Patience Nakalembe (-1995) accounted for 12 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Rose Musundi came up with 19 points and 9 rebounds and Akello Scovia added 14 points and 9 rebounds respectively for YMCA Hamstars in the defeat. YMCA Hamstars' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. A1 Challenge maintains ninth place with 3-8 record. YMCA Hamstars lost their seventh game in a row. Newly promoted team keep the tenth position with ten games lost.

Very expected game when 10th ranked YMCA Hamstars (2-10) were smashed by second ranked JKL Dolphins (9-1) in Kampala 94-49 on Sunday. JKL Dolphins dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to YMCA Hamstars' 28 and had 27 for 50 from the free-throw line, while YMCA Hamstars only scored six points from the stripe. JKL Dolphins forced 21 YMCA Hamstars turnovers and outrebounded them 36-17 including a 26-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Forward Becky Longom nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and the former international guard Brenda Ekone (152-1996) accounted for 22 points. Five JKL Dolphins players scored in double figures. Rose Musundi came up with 15 points and Rose Wafula added 13 points respectively for YMCA Hamstars in the defeat.
