Hope Akello gets MVP of the Week award for Ugandan NBL- September 15, 2023International Power forward Hope Akello (183-F/C-1997) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for league's leader JKL Dolphins and that's her to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 28.
The 26-year old power forward had a double-double of 19 points and thirteen rebounds, while her team outclassed Magic Stormers (#6, 13-9) with 47-point margin 92-45. It allowed JKL Dolphins to consolidate first place in the Ugandan NBL. JKL Dolphins has a very good season and are considered to have a run for the championship title. They improved their record to 19-2. Akello has many years of experience at JKL Dolphins, through which she has constantly improved. Akello has impressive league stats. She is in league's top in rebounds (4th best: 12.5rpg), assists (5th best: 3.6apg) and averages solid 2.5spg. The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was another JKL Dolphins' star - forward Becky Longom (F). Longom impressed basketball fans with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Of course together with Akello she helped JKL Dolphins with another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Magic Stormers (#6, 13-9) 92-45. Of course JKL Dolphins still keep the league's top spot. Her team belongs to top of the standings with 19-2 record and is considered one of the main candidates for the league title. Longom is a newcomer at JKL Dolphins and despite she is not a team leader yet, every game she becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often. The third best performed player last round was Ruth Nambirige of Magic Stormers (#6). Nambirige scored 12 points and grabbed eleven rebounds (!!!). Despite Nambirige's great performance Magic Stormers lost 59-63 to slightly higher-ranked KIU Rangers (#4, 15-5). But her team cannot count on just a single player as she also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Magic Stormers needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 13 victories and 9 lost games. Nambirige has a great season in Uganda. After 16 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 10.4rpg (8th best). Other top performing players last week: 4. Perus Nyamwenge (G) of KIU Rangers - 21 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists 5. Susan Aanyu (G-1992) of KCCA Leopards - 17 points and 7 rebounds 6. Leanne Nalunkuma (G-1990) of KCCA Leopards - 15 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists 7. Ines Kanyamunza (G) of KIU Rangers - 24 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists 8. Patricia Nakiru (SF-1994) of Magic Stormers - 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists 9. Brenda Ekone (152-G-1996) of JKL Dolphins - 15 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists 10. Martha Soigi (185-C-1986) of KCCA Leopards - 8 points and 11 rebounds The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
