NBL Round 13: UCU Canons keep a leadership position

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked UCU Canons as it allowed them to take a leadership position. UCU Canons smashed 7th ranked KIU Titans in Kampala 82-55. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of KIU Titans. UCU Canons dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to KIU Titans' 30. UCU Canons forced 30 KIU Titans turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Sudanese center Titus Lual (-1998) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and center Peter Sifuma (-1996) chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side Edgar Munaba responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 17 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. UCU Canons have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. KIU Titans at the other side keep the seventh place with seven games lost. They share the position with JKL Dolphins. KIU Titans will play next round against Ndejje Angels trying to get back on the winning streak. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will travel locally in Kampala to the arena of Ndejje Angels. UCU Canons will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Our Saviour. It will be extra interesting game as Our Saviour is their local rival from Kampala.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Betway Power (12-5) against eighth ranked JKL Dolphins (8-7) on Sunday night. Host Betway Power was defeated by JKL Dolphins in a tough game at home 56-62. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Betway Power. Malual Dier nailed 23 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and Mabor Makol accounted for 11 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Innocent Ochera (-1997) came up with 18 points and 5 rebounds for Betway Power in the defeat. Betway Power's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. JKL Dolphins moved-up to seventh place, which they share with KIU Titans. Betway Power at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. JKL Dolphins will play against Tropical R. (#10) in the next round. Betway Power will play against Victoria USY (#11) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Falcons (0-16) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their 16th consecutive match to twelfth ranked Victoria USY (4-13) 63-62 on Saturday evening. Maker Mayen fired a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Kenneth Mesho produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 20 rebounds for lost side. Victoria USY moved-up to eleventh place. Loser Falcons still closes the standings. Victoria USY will meet at home higher ranked Betway Power (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Falcons will play against Tropical R. (#10) and hope to get finally their first victory.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 13: JKL Dolphins lost to Victoria USY on the opponent's court 61-69. Betway Power managed to outperform KCCA P. in a home game 70-65. Our Saviour recorded a loss to JKL Dolphins on the road 62-47. Ndejje Angels was defeated by Blazers on its own court 79-84. UPDF smashed Tropical R. in Kampala 82-43.



Victoria USY - JKL Dolphins 69-61

There was an upset when higher ranked JKL Dolphins (8-7) were defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Victoria USY (4-13) 69-61 on Wednesday. Victoria USY forced 30 JKL Dolphins turnovers. Maker Mayen fired a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Mambo Kabuya chipped in 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Mabor Makol produced a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks (made all of his ten free throws !!!) and Malual Dier added 13 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Victoria USY moved-up to eleventh place. Loser JKL Dolphins dropped to the seventh position with seven games lost. They share it with KIU Titans. Victoria USY will meet at home higher ranked Betway Power (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. JKL Dolphins will play against Tropical R. (#10) and hope to secure a win.

Center Rin Tueny Mabor (-1996) produced 16 points and 7 rebounds and Kenyan forward Martin Ouma (195-1999) added 11 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Betway Power maintains third place with 12-5 record having just two points less than leader UCU Canons. Loser KCCA P. dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. Betway Power will meet Victoria USY (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. KCCA P. will play against Victoria USY (#11) and hope to secure a win.
