RBL Round 11 (Regular Season): UGB beat EAU in a derby game

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kigali: UGB (#7) and EAU (#7). EAU was defeated at home 97-106 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. UGB outrebounded EAU 52-34 including 17 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Ghanian James Amotoe (-1998) who had a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Burundian forward Mohamed Doumbya (202-1997) chipped in 22 points and 11 rebounds. Chadian forward Ronald Nato (199-1992) produced 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. UGB (4-4) moved-up to fifth place. EAU lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with Azomco.

Azomco was crushed at home by 34 points 51-85 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. American guard Damaria Franklin (190-1999, college: Memphis) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds. Hubert Kwizera contributed with 10 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Malik Matsouka answered with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for Azomco. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Patriots have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 7-3 record having just two point less than leader APR. Azomco at the other side dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with EAU.

It was a great evening for Damaria Franklin who led his team to a victory scoring 66 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. Ronald Nato responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Patriots have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 7-3 record having just two point less than leader APR. EAU lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with Azomco.

In the last game of round 11 winless Inspired Gen. was defeated by Azomco in Kigali 69-64.




Azomco - Inspired Gen. 69-64

The game between closely ranked teams ended with bottom-ranked Inspired Gen.'s (0-9) road loss to eighth ranked Azomco (3-6) 64-69 on Sunday. Azomco forced 22 Inspired Gen. turnovers. Strangely Inspired Gen. outrebounded Azomco 64-52 including 24 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Azomco made 10 blocks. It was a great evening for Jarode Aworet (-2001) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 17 rebounds and 7 blocks. Malik Matsouka helped adding 18 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Azomco's coach used entire bench in such tough game. Samuel Asiribo responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 18 rebounds and 4 blocks and Joseph Lambe-Embola scored 22 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Azomco moved-up to seventh place, which they share with EAU. Newly promoted Inspired Gen. still closes the standings with nine games lost.

Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Kigali: Patriots (#2) and Azomco (#8). Azomco was crushed at home by 34 points 51-85 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Patriots held Azomco to an opponent 24.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 36.0 percent accuracy of the winners. Patriots forced 24 Azomco turnovers and outrebounded them 59-45 including 22 on the offensive glass. American guard Damaria Franklin (190-1999, college: Memphis) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds. point guard Hubert Kwizera (184-2004) contributed with 10 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Another exciting game was again a derby match of two local teams from Kigali: Patriots (#2) and EAU (#7). Patriots (7-3) crushed visiting EAU (3-6) by 25 points 103-78. Patriots dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to EAU's 18. They outrebounded EAU 58-46 including a 45-29 advantage in defensive rebounds. Patriots looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Damaria Franklin (190-1999, college: Memphis) who led his team to a victory scoring 66 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Jeffery Stubbs (189-1991, college: Jackson St.) helped adding 12 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists. Chadian forward Ronald Nato (199-1992) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds and Ben Ndayishimiye Cyiza scored 17 points and 4 assists.
