The assistant coach of the national women basketball team, Adewumi Aderemi , has predicted that the D'Tigress would win the gold medal at the ongoing 11th African Games holding in Congo Brazzaville, reports the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Nigeria defeated Mozambique 78-62 in their second game of the event at the weekend. "I am confident that we will get to the final and from there, win the gold medal. We have a complete 12-man rotational team, unlike in the past, when we had either eight or nine-man rotational team. "In this squad, we have all the 12 players fully fit and brilliant on the court," he said. The coach said the mood in the camp has given him the confidence in the team's readiness to win, adding, "all the players are excited to be here. We are ready to play. We also do not have any injury worries. So, we are good to go. "We are also using the African Games to prepare for the women AfroBasket tournament coming up in Cameroun soon after the Games. It will hold from September 24 to Oct.4." The team had earlier defeated Mali 70-69 in their first game. Nigeria won the bronze medal in women basketball at the 10th All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique in 2011.
Aside the women, the men's team, D'Tigers, are also doing well in this championship. They defeated Mozambique 81-64 in their second game on Saturday, having beaten Mali 76-69 in their first game. D'Tigers would play against Cote d'Ivoire, while D'Tigress will face Cameroun. Team Nigeria has so far won 13 gold, 21 silver and 17 bronze medals at the ongoing 11th African Games.
