Senegal wins women's basketball final at All

Senegal won the women's basketball title at the 10th All Africa
Games, beating Angola 64-57 in Maputo on Sunday evening.
Senegal dominated the first half of the opening period before Angola
took over to lead the first half 31-28.
Returning to the court, Angola kept the enthusiasm and even enlarged its
advantage to five points but did not last long.
Senegal who downed Mozambique en route to the final, overtook the lead
for 10 points to enter the last quarter.
Senegal then won more rebounds and stole a string of balls to hold back
the attacks from Angola.
'Senegal is an experienced team, that was fundamental for their victory,
but Angola also did great,' said Angolan coach.

Hopes that the Mozambican women's basketball team would win the gold
medal at the 10th All-Africa Games in Maputo were dashed on Saturday
night, when the Mozambicans went down to defeat in the semi-final.
After winning all their previous games in the tournament, the Mozambican
team lost to Senegal by 83-71.
Senegal's advantage came entirely in the first quarter of the game,
which it won by 25 points to 10. The Mozambicans fought back, but never
recovered from this initial setback, only cutting the eventual margin of
the Senegalese victory from 15 to 13 points.
In the other semi-final, Angola beat Nigeria by 70-55. The final,
between Angola and Senegal, will be played on Sunday evening, preceded
by the match between Mozambique and Nigeria to determine the bronze
medal.

At
the 10th All-Africa Games in Maputo, the Mozambican women's basketball
team on Tuesday night beat Algeria by the narrowest possible margin of
victory - just one point.
At first, it looked as if the Mozambicans were coasting to an easy
victory at the end of the first half, they were 14 points in the lead.
But the Algerians fought back in the second half, and moments from the
end a foul committed by Mozambican player Anabela Cossa allowed Algeria
to take the lead by 67 points to 66.
But almost immediately Cossa herself suffered a foul which gave her the
right to take two free throws. She put both of them in the basket, and
the final result was 68 points to Mozambique, 67 to Algeria.
This was the Mozambican teams fourth consecutive victory, after beating
Zimbabwe (73-37), the Democratic Republic of Congo (67-53) and Nigeria
(52-44). Mozambique is the only undefeated team in Group A, and has
already won a place in the semi-finals.
In the other group A matches on Tuesday, Nigeria beat Kenya
(63-61), and Zimbabwe beat DR Congo (also by 63-61). On Wednesday,
Mozambique meets Kenya in the final Group A match.
In Group B, the Angolan team is enjoying the same success as the
Mozambicans, with an unbroken string of victories. On Tuesday, the
Angolans beat Cameroon by 68 to 39. In the two other Group B matches,
Mali beat Rwanda (62-59), and Senegal beat Ivory Coast (78-36).

Day Three: Mozambique and Angola top women's

The
Mozambican women's basketball team on Monday night won its third
successive match at the 10th All-Africa Games in Maputo, putting it at
the top of Group A.
The Mozambicans beat Nigeria by 52 points to 44. This follows the
Mozambican victories over Zimbabwe (73-37) and the Democratic Republic
of Congo (67-53).
In the other Group A matches played on Monday, Kenya beat Zimbabwe
(65-35) and Algeria beat DR Congo (55-49).
The Mozambican team faces Algeria on Tuesday and Kenya on Wednesday.
Judging by their performance so far, the Mozambicans are likely to
retain the leadership of Group A, and are thus guaranteed a place in the
semi-finals.
But in Group B, the Angolan team is performing as well as the
Mozambicans, and has also scored three consecutive victories. On Monday
Angola beat Rwanda by 58 points to 24. This result means that Angola too
will certainly reach the semi-finals.
Also in Group B, Ivory Coast beat Cameroon (49-42), and Senegal
inflicted a heavy defeat on Mali (81-43).

Perfect start for Rwanda in All Africa Games

Rwanda women basketball team registered a perfect start to this years
All Africa Games winning the opening game against Cameroon yesterday in
Maputo, Mozambique.
Rwanda beat Cameroon 60-56 with Justine Musabe and Anderson Kiyala
jointly amassing 15 points each. Captain Honore Ayebare also helped
herself to 12 points to take help snatch vital points for the ladies
hoops.
Rwanda which was placed in a fair draw against Cameroon, Angola, Cote
dIvoire, Mali and Senegal face Cote dIvoire on Sunday.
The other group is composed of Mozambique, Zimbabwe, DR Congo, Kenya,
Algeria and Nigeria.
