NBL Round 25 (Regular Season): Lady Jaguars beat Tomahawks in a derby game

The Regular Season in NBL is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 5 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kampala: Lady Jaguars (#1) and Tomahawks (#7). Lady Jaguars (16-2) won against visiting Tomahawks (7-9) 52-37. Lady Jaguars held Tomahawks to an opponent 21.1 percent shooting from the field compared to 28.6 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Tomahawks 56-42 including 20 on the offensive glass. The former international forward Sarah Ageno (176-1996) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks for the winners. International swingman Shakirah Nanvubya (172-2000) chipped in 6 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Forward Dorah Nakijjoba produced 6 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Tomahawks' coach rotated twelve players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lady Jaguars have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 16-2 record. Tomahawks at the other side keep the seventh position with nine games lost. Lady Jaguars are looking forward to face She Crocs (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Tomahawks will have a break next round.

Worth to mention a great performance of guard Susan Aanyu (-1992) who helped to win the game recording 46 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Sharua Nakirya contributed with 8 points and 11 assists for the winners. Rebecca Namatovu answered with 6 points and 9 rebounds for Angels. KCCA Leopards maintains third place with 13-3 record having five points less than leader Lady Jaguars. Angels lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. KCCA Leopards will play against Peal Queens (#5) in the next round. Bridget Kaluma stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Lady Canons' coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Mpoza Abigail responded with 21 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. Lady Canons (15-3) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place behind leader Lady Jaguars. Nabisunsa lost third consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 11 games lost. Lady Canons will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. In the last two games of round 25 bottom-ranked Angels were crushed by Peal Queens in a road game 77-25. KCCA Leopards beat Nabisunsa at home 72-58.

Lady Canons outrebounded Nabisunsa 56-31 including a 25-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Bridget Kaluma stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and guard Sarah Namale (-2005) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. Lady Canons' coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Mpoza Abigail (-2007) responded with 21 points, 5 assists and 5 steals and Martha Yikiru produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Peal Queens - Angels 77-25

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Angels (2-16) were crushed on the road by fifth ranked Peal Queens (9-8) 77-25 on Sunday. Peal Queens held Angels to an opponent 20.3 percent shooting from the field compared to 43.3 percent accuracy of the winners. Peal Queens forced 28 Angels turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 3 passes made by Angels' players. The former international Agatha Kamwada (170-2000) stepped up and scored 16 points and 4 assists for the winners and point guard Brenda Ayere (150-1998) chipped in 15 points and 4 assists. Four Peal Queens players scored in double figures. At the losing side Rebecca Namatovu responded with 7 points and 6 rebounds and Melissa Nantambi scored 6 points. Angels' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Newly promoted Peal Queens maintains fifth place with 9-8 record. Angels lost their sixth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. Peal Queens will meet higher ranked KCCA Leopards (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. No shocking result in a game in Kampala where third ranked KCCA Leopards (13-3) defeated 11th ranked Nabisunsa (2-11) 72-58 on Monday. KCCA Leopards forced 19 Nabisunsa turnovers and had a 24-13 advantage in offensive rebounds. Burundian guard Ninette Uwineza (-1988) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and guard Susan Aanyu (-1992) chipped in 15 points and 11 rebounds.
