NBL Round 23 (Regular Season): Derby game ends with Tomahawks' defeat of Lady Dolphins

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kampala: Tomahawks (#8) and Lady Dolphins (#4). Lady Dolphins were crushed at home by 17 points 45-62 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Tomahawks held Lady Dolphins to an opponent 23.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 33.8 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Lady Dolphins 58-38 including 20 on the offensive glass. Tomahawks looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Ruth Letaru (-1997) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Forward Dorah Nakijjoba contributed with 10 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Tomahawks' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Tamasha Nsubuga answered with 17 points and 8 rebounds for Lady Dolphins. Tomahawks (7-8) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Magic S. Defending champion Lady Dolphins keep the fourth position with five games lost. Tomahawks' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kampala to the arena Lady Jaguars.

KIU Rangers were crushed at home by 52 points 27-79 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It was a great evening for Matrina Anyango who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. Sarah Namale helped adding 11 points and 9 rebounds. Cindealla Anena responded with 6 points and 11 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Lady Canons have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 13-3 record behind leader Lady Jaguars. KIU Rangers at the other side dropped to the ninth position with ten games lost. NBL top team - Lady Jaguars (14-2) added another victory to their record on Sunday. This time they beat tenth ranked Miracle (3-12) in Kampala 66-60. It was a quality performance for Shakirah Nanvubya who led the winners and scored 11 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Caroline Natako came up with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for Miracle in the defeat. Lady Jaguars maintains first place with 14-2 record. Miracle lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with 12 games lost. Lady Jaguars' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kampala Tomahawks.

In the last two games of round 23 Lady Dolphins smashed Angels on the road 81-48. She Crocs won against KIU Rangers on its own court 47-38.
The most impressive performance of 23th round was 6 points, 20 rebounds and 4 blocks by Sharon Nangobi of KIU Rangers.

Lady Canons forced 25 KIU Rangers turnovers and outrebounded them 65-40 including a 28-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. Lady Canons players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by KIU Rangers' players. It was a great evening for Matrina Anyango who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Sarah Namale (-2005) helped adding 11 points and 9 rebounds. Angels - Lady Dolphins 48-81

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Lady Dolphins (11-5) crushed bottom-ranked Angels (2-14) in Kampala 81-48 on Sunday. Lady Dolphins dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Angels' 26. Lady Dolphins forced 28 Angels turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for forward Tamasha Nsubuga who led the winners and scored 19 points and 4 assists. The former international guard Flavia Oketcho (170-1986) accounted for 12 points and 6 assists for the winning side. Four Lady Dolphins players scored in double figures. Rebecca Namatovu came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and guard Martha Likicho (-2001) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Angels in the defeat. We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 8th ranked KIU Rangers (6-10) lost on the road to ninth ranked She Crocs (6-9) 47-38 on Sunday. She Crocs held KIU Rangers to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 21.0 percent accuracy of the winners. She Crocs forced 29 KIU Rangers turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for guard Grant Generous who led the winners and scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. Vanessa Nakalembe accounted for 10 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals for the winning side. The former international forward Sharon Nangobi (170-1996) came up with 6 points, 20 rebounds and 4 blocks and guard Ines Kanyamunza added 16 points respectively for KIU Rangers in the defeat.
