Kayira number one in Uganda NBL for round 19

International Center Joel Kayira (208-C-2001) had a great game in the last round for UCU Canons Kampala, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 19.
The 23-year old player was the main contributor (8 points, seventeen rebounds and four assists) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out Victoria C. (#6, 7-7) 63-62. UCU Canons maintains the 5th position in Ugandan NBL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. UCU Canons will need more victories to improve their 8-5 record. Kayira has many years of experience at UCU Canons, through which he has constantly improved. Joel Kayira has solid league stats. He is in league's top in rebounds (6th best: 10.8rpg) and averages impressive 2.0bpg.

The second best player in last round's games was young DR Congolese Franck Nyembo (2006) of Sommet BC. Nyembo had a very good evening with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as Sommet was edged by the higher-ranked KCCA P. (#3, 10-6) 55-52. Sommet managed to keep the same 7th spot in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 6-7 record. Nyembo is one of the most experienced players at Sommet and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was center Elvis Bwanka (C) of JKL Dolphins Kampala (#10). Bwanka scored 10 points and grabbed 14 rebounds (!!!). Despite Bwanka's great performance the JKL Dolphins lost 54-62 to the higher-ranked KCCA P. (#3, 10-6). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of JKL Dolphins not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 8 games, recording just five victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Bwanka could try to bring JKL Dolphins' a little bit higher in the standings. Bwanka has individually a great season in Uganda. After 13 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 12.8rpg (#1 in league).
