Sommet Overcome JKL Dolphins On NBL Debut- April 3, 2025Sommet Basketball Club made a statement on their National Basketball League (NBL) debut with a commanding 76-59 victory over JKL Dolphins on Sunday at Lugogo. Despite not earning promotion through sporting merit—having acquired Our Saviour’s NBL slot after the latter ceased operations—Sommet showed they belong at the top level with an impressive performance. After a sluggish start that saw them trail 13-16 at the end of the first quarter, Sommet roared back with a dominant 30-11 second-quarter display to establish a 16-point halftime lead. JKL Dolphins attempted to mount a comeback in the second half, but Sommet’s resilience ensured they secured a memorable win in their first-ever NBL outing. Markey Opio led the charge with a game-high 15 points, while Gerald Kesia and John Ngobi chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively. For JKL, Elvis Mpeti (C) registered a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds, but his efforts were not enough to overturn their struggles. The Dolphins endured a tough night, shooting just 1-of-9 from three-point range and committing 29 turnovers. Their 22 bench points paled in comparison to Sommet’s 50.
