Team Ageno Retains Basketball All-Star Women’s Tournament Title- April 3, 2025Team Ageno successfully defended their Basketball 2025 All-Star Women’s Tournament title by edging Team Kamwada 52-48 in a thrilling final held Sunday at Lugogo Indoor Stadium. Led by JT Lady Jaguars and Gazelles forward Sarah Ageno (176-F-1996), the defending champions maintained composure in the decisive fourth quarter to secure victory. Team Kamwada held a slim 48-47 lead with under a minute remaining, but a costly turnover changed the momentum. Margaret Bagala intercepted Shakirah Nanvubya (G/F-2000)’s inbound pass and, while driving to the basket, drew a foul. She completed the three-point play to put Team Ageno ahead by two. A subsequent turnover by Team Kamwada allowed Fildauce Namuleme to earn a trip to the charity line, where she calmly sank both free throws to seal the win. PostBank, the tournament’s headline sponsor, defeated Parliament of Uganda 60-52 in one of the exhibition games, while Team Franceas overcame Team Viola in the Legends game featuring prominent former players. The event began with a mentorship program aimed at teaching children basic life skills and basketball lessons, conducted by former and current players. Musicians King Saha and Vinka electrified the well-attended event with entertaining performances. Team Ageno walked away with Shs3m for their triumph, while Team Kamwada received Shs2m, courtesy of PostBank. Sarah Ageno was named MVP of the tournament, while her Lady Jaguars teammate Mercy Batamuliza (F), representing Team Kamwada, emerged as the top rebounder. Tracy Namugosa (G) of Team Kamwada claimed the top scorer accolade.
