Al Gezira Cairo (Superleague) landed experienced 35-year old American 183cm point guard Randy Culpepper (college: UTEP, agency: Octagon Europe) for upcoming season. He played most recently at City Oilers in Ugandan NBL league. In 6 Basketball Africa League games he averaged 13.3ppg, 2.2rpg, 3.3apg and 1.8spg last season.
Part of last season he spent at Al Gharafa Doha (QBL) in Qatari league. He also played for Somouha earlier that season.
Culpepper has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
He is a very experienced player. Culpepper has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to eleven different countries on five different continents (Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa and of course North America). He has played previously professionally in France (Limoges CSP Elite), Italy (Pistoia and Scafati), Lebanon (Sagesse), Lithuania (Pieno Zvaigzdes Pasvalys), Mexico (Soles), Qatar, Russia (Krasny Oktyabr), Turkey (Besiktas, Best Balikesir and Afyon), Ukraine (Zaporizhye and Prometey), South Korea (Anyang) and Czech Republic (Brno).
Among many awards his team was regular season runner-up in Czech Republic League in 2023. Culpepper was also voted to Eurobasket.com All-Italian Serie a Defensive Player of the Year back in 2018.
He is close to retirement age as a player. It may be one of last seasons in his extensive career, which he may end at Al Gezira.
He graduated from University of Texas at El Paso in 2011 and it will be his 14th (!!!) season in pro basketball.
