NBL Playoffs: City Oilers Ease Into Semifinals- July 18, 2024City Oilers have effortlessly advanced to the National Basketball League Semifinals after a commanding sweep of the Kampala Rockets in the Quarterfinals. In Wednesday’s decisive game two, the Oilers secured a 91-69 victory, adding to their 75-52 triumph in game one last Saturday, clinching the best-of-three series 2-0. From the outset on Wednesday, the Oilers took control, establishing a 12-point lead, 31-19, by the end of the first quarter. Their offensive fluidity remained unchallenged as they extended their advantage to 70-41 by the close of the third quarter, a margin that the Rockets could not overcome. Five Oilers players achieved double-digit scores: Fayed Bbaale led with 18 points, followed by Moses Maker (16), Titus Lual (201-C-1998) (13), Benjamin Komakech (187-PG-1986) (10), and Benjamin Kawumi (10). In contrast, Christian Ndibu of the Rockets delivered an impressive double-double with 25 points and 15 rebounds, but no other teammate reached double figures in scoring or rebounding. The Rockets’ long-range shooting woes were evident as they converted only 2-of-17 from beyond the arc. Chasing their 10th consecutive league title, the Oilers now await the outcome of the quarterfinal clash between UCU Canons and KCCA Panthers, with the Canons currently leading the series 1-0.
