NBL Round 22 (Regular Season): Derby game ends with KIU Rangers' defeat of Magic Stormers

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kampala: KIU Rangers (#3) and Magic Stormers (#6). KIU Rangers (18-4) smashed visiting Magic Stormers (10-12) by 25 points 66-41. KIU Rangers forced 33 Magic Stormers turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Sharon Kirabo (170-1996) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 6 rebounds. point guard Fildauce Namulema (155-2001) contributed with 11 points, 9 assists and 7 steals for the winners. KIU Rangers' coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Daphine Adong replied with 13 points and 6 rebounds for Magic Stormers. KIU Rangers have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with UCU Ladies. Magic Stormers lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with 12 games lost.

KIU Rangers were defeated at home 63-69 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of KIU Rangers. The former international Bridget Aber (-2001) had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Sylvia Nantongo chipped in 9 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Mary Amaniyo (180-2003) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. KIU Rangers' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. UCU Ladies have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 18-4 record having five points less than leader JKL Dolphins, which they share with defeated KIU Rangers.
Bottom-ranked Kampala Uni is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 22th consecutive match to ninth ranked A1 Challenge (6-16) 78-45 on Saturday evening. Yaweh Precious notched 25 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort. Even a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds by Victoria Nalwanga did not help to save the game for Kampala Uni. Kampala Uni's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. A1 Challenge maintains ninth position with 6-16 record. Kampala Uni at the other side still closes the standings.

Other games in round 22 were not that significant. YMCA Hamstars were beaten by Nabisunsa on the road 67-56. Miracle destroyed Kampala Uni on its own court 96-49. KIU Rangers outscored YMCA Hamstars in Kampala 70-22. Magic Stormers recorded a loss to Nabisunsa at home 58-59.
The most impressive performance of 22th round was 12 points and 17 rebounds by Sarah Namale of Nabisunsa.

They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 3 passes made by Kampala Uni's players. Guard Yaweh Precious (-1999) notched 25 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and Stella Kiberenge supported her with 21 points and 9 rebounds. We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when eleventh ranked Nabisunsa (4-18) beat 10th ranked YMCA Hamstars (4-18) in Kampala 67-56 on Sunday. Nabisunsa forced 19 YMCA Hamstars turnovers. Strangely YMCA Hamstars outrebounded Nabisunsa 53-36 including 19 on the offensive glass. Mpoza Abigail notched 23 points to lead the effort and Mich Nyadoi supported her with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Even a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds by Rose Musundi did not help to save the game for YMCA Hamstars. Akello Scovia added 19 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Nabisunsa moved-up to tenth place, which they share with defeated YMCA Hamstars. YMCA Hamstars lost third consecutive game.

Very expected game when bottom-ranked Kampala Uni (0-22) was smashed on the road by seventh ranked Miracle (11-11) 96-49 on Sunday. Miracle dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Kampala Uni's 28. Miracle forced 25 Kampala Uni turnovers and outrebounded them 64-38 including a 25-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Miracle looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 4 passes made by Kampala Uni's players. Forward Lilian Cherotich notched a double-double by scoring 24 points and 18 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Brenda Alyano supported her with 24 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Four Miracle players scored in double figures. Even 13 points and 7 rebounds by Victoria Nalwanga did not help to save the game for Kampala Uni. Pennitah Nabakooza added 12 points for lost side. Kampala Uni's coach already knew that her team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Miracle moved-up to sixth place. KIU Rangers forced 29 YMCA Hamstars turnovers and had a 41-27 advantage in offensive rebounds. Strangely Magic Stormers outrebounded Nabisunsa 58-39 including a 30-13 advantage in offensive rebounds.
