NBL Round 18 (Regular Season): JKL Dolphins beat Miracle in a derby game

The Regular Season in NBL is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 3 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kampala: JKL Dolphins (#1) and Miracle (#6). JKL Dolphins (19-1) smashed visiting Miracle (10-9) by 28 points 83-55. JKL Dolphins dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Miracle's 28. JKL Dolphins forced 19 Miracle turnovers and outrebounded them 60-41 including 25 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Brenda Ekone (152-1996) who scored 25 points and 5 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). The former international power forward Hope Akello (183-1997) chipped in 12 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. JKL Dolphins' coach felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Susan Amito (-1988) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. JKL Dolphins have an impressive 19-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 19-1 record. Miracle lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with nine games lost. JKL Dolphins' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kampala Lady Tomahawks.
Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Kampala: JTL Jaguars (#5) and KCCA Leopards (#2). JTL Jaguars (13-6) won against visiting KCCA Leopards (13-4) 70-62. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of KCCA Leopards. It was a good game for guard Brenda Kayaga (-1996) who led her team to a victory with 31 points and 5 rebounds. Sarah Ageno contributed with 14 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Margaret Bagaala replied with 9 points and 11 rebounds for KCCA Leopards. KCCA Leopards' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. JTL Jaguars have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. KCCA Leopards at the other side dropped to the third position with four games lost. JTL Jaguars' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kampala to the arena UCU Ladies.

JTL Jaguars (13-6) smashed visiting Lady Tomahawks (6-12) by 30 points 74-44. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lady Tomahawks. Sarah Ageno scored 9 points and 16 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. The best for the losing side was Stella Lunkuse with 9 points and 17 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. JTL Jaguars have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. Newly promoted Lady Tomahawks keep the eighth position with 12 games lost. JTL Jaguars' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kampala to the arena UCU Ladies.

Rest of the games of round 18 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
A1 Challenge was defeated by Lady Tomahawks in Kampala 50-40. Nabisunsa beat Kampala Uni at home 51-39. YMCA Hamstars lost to Miracle on the opponent's court 57-66. Nabisunsa lost to defending champion JKL Dolphins in a home game 47-102. A1 Challenge recorded a loss to Magic Stormers on the road 56-60. KIU Rangers lost to defending champion JKL Dolphins on its own court 37-60.
