NBL Round 7 (Regular Season): Derby game ends with JKL Dolphins' defeat of UCU Ladies

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kampala: JKL Dolphins (#2) and UCU Ladies (#4). JKL Dolphins (6-0) won against visiting UCU Ladies (6-2) 75-68. JKL Dolphins made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 UCU Ladies turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international power forward Hope Akello (183-1997) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Becky Longom contributed with 10 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. The former international Shakirah Nanvubya (-2000) answered with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists for UCU Ladies. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated JKL Dolphins have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 6-0 record behind leader KCCA Leopards. UCU Ladies at the other side keep the fourth position with two games lost. JKL Dolphins will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. UCU Ladies' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kampala Miracle.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Kampala: Magic Stormers (#8) and Lady Tomahawks (#7). Magic Stormers (2-5) crushed visiting Lady Tomahawks (3-6) by 16 points 62-46. It was a great evening for forward Daphine Adong who led her team to a victory scoring 13 points and 7 rebounds. Ruth Nambirige helped adding 6 points and 14 rebounds. At the losing side guard Stella Lunkuse (-1998) responded with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Magic Stormers maintains eighth place with 2-5 record, which they share with YMCA Hamstars. Lady Tomahawks lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team keep the seventh position with six games lost. Magic Stormers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Lady Tomahawks' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kampala to the arena Nabisunsa.

Miracle was defeated at home 42-56 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Miracle. It was an exceptional evening for Among Annet who led the winners and scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. Susan Amito came up with 6 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for Miracle in the defeat. Miracle's coach rotated eleven players saving starting five for next games. JTL Jaguars maintains sixth place with 4-3 record. Loser Miracle dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. JTL Jaguars will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Miracle's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kampala to the arena UCU Ladies.

Other games in round 7 were not that significant. Winless Kampala Uni was beaten by A1 Challenge on the road 57-43. Winless Kampala Uni lost to defending champion JKL Dolphins on its own court 35-108. KIU Rangers outscored A1 Challenge in Kampala 62-39. Magic Stormers were rolled over UCU Ladies at home 52-75.

No shocking result in a game when ninth ranked A1 Challenge (2-6) beat at home bottom-ranked Kampala Uni (0-7) 57-43 on Saturday. A1 Challenge held Kampala Uni to an opponent 24.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 29.2 percent accuracy of the winners. A1 Challenge forced 31 Kampala Uni turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for forward Sharua Nakirya (-2000) who led the winners and scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Marion Esther accounted for 11 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Guard Hanifah Namuli (-2002) came up with 14 points and 5 rebounds and Gladys Ayaa (-2000) added 5 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Kampala Uni in the defeat. Kampala Uni's coach rotated ten players saving starting five for next games. Despite that victory A1 Challenge went down to tenth position due to points difference. Very expected game when bottom-ranked Kampala Uni (0-7) was smashed at home by leader JKL Dolphins (6-0) 108-35 on Sunday. JKL Dolphins held Kampala Uni to an opponent 19.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 34.3 percent accuracy of the winners and had 24 for 36 from the free-throw line, while Kampala Uni only scored seven points from the stripe. Elizabeth Akol (-1993) accounted for 13 points for the winning side. KIU Rangers' coach felt very confident using 11 players saving starting five for next games.
