NBL Round 8 (Regular Season): City Oilers lose Blazers

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The biggest surprise took place in Kampala where host Blazers (5-1) beat league's leader City Oilers (5-1) 60-54 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of City Oilers. It was a key game for the top position in the league. They outrebounded City Oilers 52-37 including a 38-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was forward Joseph Chuma (-1991) who scored 18 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Peter Cheng chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds. Center Maker Mer produced 11 points and 9 rebounds for the guests. City Oilers' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Blazers have an impressive five-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with defeated City Oilers. City Oilers will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Blazers will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Livingstone at home.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Kampala: KCCA P. (#6) and Ndejje Angels (#8). Ndejje Angels were smashed at home by 19 points 51-70 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Forward Caesar Kizito (-1988) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points. Okumu Emmanuel contributed with 10 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Cikom Monybai replied with 13 points and 8 rebounds for Ndejje Angels. KCCA P. have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Our Saviour. Ndejje Angels at the other side dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. KCCA P. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ndejje Angels' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kampala JKL Dolphins.

Worth to mention a great performance of Micheal Makiadi who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 9 rebounds. Benjamin Shango responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Blazers have an impressive five-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with City Oilers. Jaguars lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the sixth place with three games lost. Blazers will meet at home Livingstone (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Jaguars will play against Kampala R. and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 8 bottom-ranked Kampala R. was defeated by Power in Kampala 72-60.

Ndejje Angels - KCCA P. 51-70

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Kampala R. (1-7) was defeated on the road by tenth ranked Power (2-2) 72-60 on Wednesday. Power dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Kampala R.'s 30. Power forced 20 Kampala R. turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Samad Imran (-1993) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points and 16 rebounds and center Phillip Ameny (-1989) who added 13 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Five Power players scored in double figures. Francis Kasinde responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds and Puati Kikomba produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 19 rebounds. Power moved-up to seventh place, which they share with KIU Titans. Kampala R. lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. Power will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Kampala R. will play against Jaguars (#6) and hope to win that game.
