NBL Round 3 (Regular Season): JKL Dolphins keep a leadership position

JKL Dolphins smashed A1 Challenge in Kampala 72-45. JKL Dolphins forced 27 A1 Challenge turnovers and outrebounded them 52-30 including a 25-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Hope Akello (183-1997) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points and 14 rebounds. Forward Becky Longom chipped in 10 points and 13 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Stella Kiberenge who recorded 14 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. A1 Challenge will play next round against Nabisunsa trying to get back on the winning streak. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will travel locally in Kampala to the arena of Nabisunsa. JKL Dolphins will try to continue on its current victory against Magic Stormers. It will be extra interesting game as Magic Stormers is their local rival from Kampala.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Kampala: KCCA Leopards (#3) and JTL Jaguars (#6). KCCA Leopards (3-0) won against visiting JTL Jaguars (2-2) 65-53. It was a good game for Asinah Kabendela who led her team to a victory with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Perus Nyamwenge contributed with 15 points and 4 steals for the winners. KCCA Leopards' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international forward Sarah Ageno (176-1996) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 18 rebounds for JTL Jaguars. KCCA Leopards' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kampala Nabisunsa.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two local teams from Kampala: KIU Rangers (#4) and Miracle (#6). KIU Rangers (3-0) crushed visiting Miracle (1-2) by 16 points 65-49. It was a great evening for Mary Amaniyo who led her team to a victory scoring 14 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Susan Amito with 4 points and 15 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. KIU Rangers will meet at home YMCA Hamstars (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Miracle's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kampala to the arena Lady Tomahawks.

Other games of round 3 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
KIU Rangers crushed Magic Stormers in Kampala 76-57. Bottom-ranked YMCA Hamstars smashed Nabisunsa at home 80-42. Winless Kampala Uni was destroyed by Lady Tomahawks on the opponent's court 73-37. JTL Jaguars outscored Magic Stormers in a home game 76-47.

There was no surprise in Kampala where Magic Stormers (0-3) were crushed by KIU Rangers (3-0) 76-57 on Wednesday. KIU Rangers forced 22 Magic Stormers turnovers and outrebounded them 51-29 including a 27-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. KIU Rangers looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a great evening for Mary Amaniyo (180-2003) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Ines Kanyamunza helped adding 22 points and 8 rebounds. Four KIU Rangers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Daphine Adong with 23 points and 5 rebounds and Kur Ajah scored 16 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Magic Stormers' coach rotated twelve players seeing no chance for a win. KIU Rangers will meet at home YMCA Hamstars (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. It was a great evening for Mary Amaniyo (180-2003) who led her team to a victory scoring 14 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Ines Kanyamunza helped adding 18 points. The best for the losing side was Susan Amito (-1988) with 4 points and 15 rebounds and forward Lilian Cherotich scored 10 points and 8 rebounds. YMCA Hamstars held Nabisunsa to an opponent 23.3 percent shooting from the field compared to 58.1 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Nabisunsa 48-24 including a 42-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for Rose Musundi who led her team to a victory scoring 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
