NBL Round 2 (Regular Season): UCU Ladies keep a leadership position

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in NBL. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

UCU Ladies defeated Lady Tomahawks in Kampala 68-61. UCU Ladies forced 22 Lady Tomahawks turnovers and outrebounded them 56-42 including 24 on the offensive glass. Shillah Lamunu scored 15 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Aziida Nabayunga (-2000) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots) during the contest. Guard Stella Lunkuse (-1998) responded with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lady Tomahawks will play next round against Kampala Uni trying to get back on the winning streak. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kampala - Kampala Uni. UCU Ladies will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.

Guard Perus Nyamwenge notched 25 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and Kazibwe Sylvester supported her with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. KCCA Leopards' coach felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 4 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals by Shillah Lamunu did not help to save the game for UCU Ladies. KCCA Leopards' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kampala JTL Jaguars.
Quite upsetting was Miracle's home defeat in a game versus JKL Dolphins who edged hosts 57-55. The best player for the winners was Becky Longom who had a double-double by scoring 10 points and 14 rebounds. Brenda Alyano produced 18 points for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. JKL Dolphins' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kampala A1 Challenge.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 2: Lady Tomahawks won against A1 Challenge on the opponent's court 78-69. Winless Kampala Uni unfortunately lost to Nabisunsa in a home game 49-59. Winless YMCA Hamstars were rolled over UCU Ladies on the road 50-91.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 13 points and 12 rebounds by Shakirah Nanvubya of UCU Ladies.

Lady Tomahawks forced 24 A1 Challenge turnovers and outrebounded them 54-35 including a 27-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was guard Stella Lunkuse (-1998) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Christine Namyalo (-2006) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Stella Kiberenge produced 22 points and 9 rebounds and forward Sharua Nakirya (-2000) added 12 points, 5 assists and 6 steals respectively for the hosts. But Kampala Uni was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Kampala 59-49 on Sunday night. Nabisunsa forced 35 Kampala Uni turnovers. Strangely Kampala Uni outrebounded Nabisunsa 59-40 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Martha Yikiru who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds. Vanessa Nkyazze chipped in 11 points and 6 rebounds. Gladys Ayaa (-2000) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 18 rebounds and guard Hanifah Namuli (-2002) added 9 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Nabisunsa will meet YMCA Hamstars in the next round where they are favorite. UCU Ladies held YMCA Hamstars to an opponent 22.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 41.6 percent accuracy of the winners. UCU Ladies forced 30 YMCA Hamstars turnovers and had a 36-25 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international Shakirah Nanvubya (-2000) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. Shillah Lamunu chipped in 9 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Akello Scovia produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds and Rose Musundi added 21 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests.
