Gabriel number one in South Africa BNL for round 8 (by Hoops Agents)

International Center Stephen Gabriel (205-C-1991) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Western Cape Mountaineers, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 33-year old player had a double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds, while his team beat Tshwane S. (#4, 1-3) 79-67. Mountaineers is placed at 3rd position in South African BNL. WC Mountaineers is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 1-2 record. Gabriel has many years of experience at Mountaineers, through which he has constantly improved. Stephen Gabriel has solid league stats. He is league's best scorer averaging so far 17.3ppg. Gabriel is in league's top in assists (2nd best: 4.3apg) and averages impressive 1.3bpg.

The second best player in last round's games was Lethabo Makgalemele (G) of Tshwane Suns. Makgalemele had a very good evening with 20 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Bad luck as Suns lost that game 67-79 to slightly higher-ranked WC Mountaineers (#3, 1-2). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the top position in Group B. Tshwane S. still maintains its place in the top 4 of the standings, even despite this loss. 3 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory Suns managed to get this year. Makgalemele is well-known at Tshwane S. and is a proven leader in his second season with the team.

Third on the list of top players last round was another Tshwane S.'s star - guard Junior Makhubela (G-2000). Makhubela scored 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Despite Makhubela's great performance the Tshwane Suns lost 67-79 to #3 ranked WC Mountaineers. But his team cannot count on just these two top stars as they also need help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. Suns can only dream about fighting for top spots in Group B. They have rather bad season and 1-3 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Makhubela has individually a great season in South Africa. After only 4 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 12.8ppg (6th best).
