Afrobasket.com All-South African BNL Awards 2025- August 25, 2025![]() Storm Gilchrist, 20-year old South African forward from the runner-up team Kwa-Zulu Marlins, picked up the Player of the Year at the Basketball National League.
He graduated from the Temple College recently.
Gilchrist received multiple other awards, was named the Defensive Player of the Year, Domestic Player of the Year, Best Prospect of the Year, and was voted to the First Team, Domestic Players Team and Defensive Team.
He averaged over 14 points per game in the league.
Gilchrist was the Player of the Week honoree in the league.
He led the BNL in rebounds per game with over 16.
Gilchrist recorded double-doubles in 4 games during the event.
His 20 points against the Pride were the most he scored in the 2025 season.
Marcus Mokwena, 36-year old guard from the champion team Tshwane Suns, was voted the Finals MVP of Basketball National League.
He collected multiple other honors, was selected to the First Team and Domestic Players Team and Defensive Team.
Mokwena helped Mokwena's team have an undefeated season as champion team Tshwane Suns was not challenged in the league with a perfect 4 to 0 in the regular season.
His best performance made his team reach the finals but they unfortunately were defeated by the Magic 1 to 1.
Mokwena received Player of the Week award in the league.
He registered over 13 points and 9 rebounds per game that season in the league.
Mokwena had double-doubles in 4 games at the event.
His 21 points against the Mountaineers were the most he scored in the 2025 season.
Among many awards he was selected to the Afrobasket All-South African Second Team back in 2021.
Liam Reid-Laynes, 27-year old center from the Soweto Panthers, was chosen to the First Team at the Basketball National League.
He received multiple other awards, was named to the Domestic Players Team and Defensive Team.
Reid-Laynes orchestrated his way to the fourth spot in points per game, showcasing a dazzling average of 16 and second position in averaging over 13 rebounds per game.
He has totalled 2 games of 20 or more points and recorded double-doubles in 3 games on the year.
Reid-Laynes' 23 points against the Magic were the most he scored in the 2025 season.

Kasilembo also logged 10 rebounds per game over the season in the league.
He has totalled 3 games of 20 or more points and registered double-doubles in 4 games on the year.
Kasilembo's 22 points against the Eagles were the most he scored in the 2025 season.
Jeremie Luvaika, from the North West Eagles, was selected to the First Team at the Basketball National League.
He was also chosen to the Defensive Team.
Luvaika's court vision propelled him to the third spot in rebounds per game an outstanding average of 13.
He also averaged 13 points per game in the league.
Luvaika's 22 points against the Rhinos were the most he scored in the 2025 season.
