Gabriel's double-double lands him Hoops Agents Player of the Week award

36-year old center Christopher Gabriel (211-C-1988) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for second-ranked Western Cape Mountaineers and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 13.
He had a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds, while his team outclassed, the league's bottom-ranked team NW Eagles (#7, 0-4) with 27-point margin 83-56. Mountaineers is placed at 2nd position in South African league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost two games earlier this season. WC Mountaineers will need more victories to improve their 3-2 record. It was one of impressive evenings for Gabriel as usually he does not deliver so high stats. University of San Diego graduate has very impressive stats this year. Gabriel is in league's top in points (4th best: 10.4ppg) and assists (3rd best: 0.8apg). Worth to mention Gabriel played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

Second best performed player last round was Mndeni Mdluli of Northern Cape Zebras. He is a in his first season at NC Zebras. In the last game Mdluli recorded an impressive 28 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Bad luck as Zebras lost that game 69-77 to the higher-ranked WC Mountaineers (#2, 3-2). This loss caused NC Zebras to drop to 5th position in Group B. 3 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory Zebras managed to get this year. Mdluli is a newcomer at NC Zebras and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.0ppg (#1). He also registered 4.5 boards per game.

Third place about best performers goes to another WC Mountaineers' star - center Stephen Gabriel (205-C-1991). Gabriel showcased his all-around game by recording 18 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists in the last round. He was another key player of Western Cape Mountaineers, helping his team with a 83-56 easy win against NW Eagles (#7, 0-4). Mountaineers needs these victories very badly if they think about taking over top position in Group B. Their record at this point is 3 victories and 2 lost games. Gabriel has a great season in South Africa. After only 5 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.8ppg (4th best) and assists with 4.2apg (3rd best).
