WC Mountaineers - NW Eagles 54-38 The game between Top Four teams took place in Cape. host Mountaineers (1-1) defeated Eagles (0-2) 54-38. Mountaineers held Eagles to an opponent 20.3 percent shooting from the field compared to 29.2 percent accuracy of the winners. Mountaineers forced 22 Eagles turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for the former international center Stephen Gabriel (205-91) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds. Swingman Asiphamandla Mayi (188-92) accounted for 10 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Guard Thapelo Mkhatshwa came up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds and Davison Chivero added 12 points respectively for Eagles in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Mountaineers will play against Marlins in Kwazulu in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Eagles will play on the road against Panthers (#2) in Johannesburg and hope to get finally their first victory. Visitors were defeated by Marlins (2-0) 83-65. Marlins held Panthers to an opponent 24.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 39.7 percent accuracy of the winners. 29 personal fouls committed by Panthers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for point guard Sibusiso Cele (175) who led his team to a victory scoring 28 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Luyanda Mazeka (-0) helped adding 9 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. The best for the losing side was Gabonese guard Gleen Bidza with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and Angolan Christian Kabasele (-90) scored 21 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Marlins is looking forward to face Mountaineers (#3) in Cape in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Panthers will play at home against Eagles and are hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
