The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kigali: REG (#3) and Azomco (#8). Azomco was defeated at home 89-97 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. REG forced 20 Azomco turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists. The best player for the winners was DR Congolese forward Frank Betoudji (201-1998) who scored 18 points and 9 rebounds. American point guard Cole Elliot (180-1994, college: Charleston) chipped in 15 points and 10 assists. Jarode Aworet (-2001) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. REG have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Patriots. Azomco lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with nine games lost. REG's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kigali to the arena UGB.
Bottom-ranked Inspired Gen. (0-13) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 112-64 loss to sixth ranked UGB (5-5) in Kigali. Cameroonian Valentin Lele (185-2004) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals. James Amotoe contributed with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. UGB's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Samuel Asiribo replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds for Inspired Gen.UGB maintains sixth position with 5-5 record. Newly promoted Inspired Gen. still closes the standings with 13 games lost. UGB's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kigali REG.
