D1 Round 6 (Regular Season): APR is defeated by REG in a derby game

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kigali: REG (#1) and APR (#3). REG (6-0) won against visiting APR (4-2) 66-60. REG forced 23 APR turnovers and outrebounded them 52-40 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Mali center Kankou Coulibaly (187-1990) had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international forward Chantal Ramu (170-2000) chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international center Charlotte Umugwaneza (195-1984) with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated REG have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 6-0 record. APR at the other side keeps the third place with two games lost. REG's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kigali Kepler.
Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Kigali: REG (#1) and The Hoops (#2). REG (6-0) smashed visiting The Hoops (3-2) by 40 points 91-51. Mali center Kankou Coulibaly (187-1990) notched a double-double by scoring 32 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and Ange Irakoze supported her with 9 points and 10 rebounds. Even a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds by DR Congolese forward Feza Ebengo (185-1999) did not help to save the game for The Hoops. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated REG have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 6-0 record. The Hoops at the other side dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. REG's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kigali Kepler.

Azomco was smashed at home by 28 points 52-80 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The best player for the winners was Nelly Nsanzabaganwa who scored 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Ange Uwiringiyimana who recorded 14 points and 8 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Kepler (4-1) moved-up to second place. Loser Azomco keeps the fifth position with three games lost. Kepler's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kigali to the arena REG.

In the last two games of round 6 APR destroyed RP-IPRC Huye on the opponent's court 95-59. Winless Gahini was outscored by Kepler in a home game 49-78.

Rather expected game in Butare where 6th ranked RP-IPRC Huye (1-4) was crushed by third ranked APR (4-2) 95-59 on Saturday. APR forced 29 RP-IPRC Huye turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. The best player for the winners was Mali guard Kamba Diakite (172-1999) who scored 26 points, 5 assists and 7 steals. Yvonne Muhawenimana (-2006) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 assists. Five APR players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Liliane Ingabire (170-2008) who recorded 23 points and 5 rebounds and Gisele Makenga added 15 points respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. APR maintains third position with 4-2 record having just two points less than leader REG. Loser RP-IPRC Huye keeps the sixth place with four games lost. Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Kigali: REG (#1) and The Hoops (#2). REG (6-0) smashed visiting The Hoops (3-2) by 40 points 91-51. REG dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to The Hoops' 30. REG forced 33 The Hoops turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by The Hoops' players.
