RBL Round 15 (Regular Season): Derby game ends with Tigers' defeat of Azomco

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kigali: Tigers (#5) and Azomco (#8). Tigers (9-6) crushed visiting Azomco (3-13) by 30 points 106-76. Tigers dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Azomco's 46. Tigers forced 20 Azomco turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a good game for DR Congolese center Pitchou Kambuyi (208-1988) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 19 rebounds. The former international Pascal Niyonkuru (193-1995) contributed with 25 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Jarode Aworet (-2001) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds for Azomco. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tigers moved-up to fourth place, which they share with UGB. Newly promoted Azomco keeps the eighth position with 13 games lost.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Kigali: Kepler (#6) and REG (#2). Kepler (6-9) won against visiting REG (11-4) 81-75. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of REG. It was a great evening for Canadian guard Chad Bowie (188-1996, college: SHSU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 6 rebounds and 12 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Kurt-Curry Wegscheider helped adding 32 points. The best for the losing side was DR Congolese power forward Garmine Kande (205-1999, agency: Helping Ballers) with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kepler maintains sixth place with 6-9 record. REG at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost.

Orion was crushed at home by 47 points 74-121 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It was an exceptional evening for Eric Kayondo who led the winners and scored 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. UGB's coach Yves Murenzi felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Abdoul Maisouka came up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds for Orion in the defeat. UGB (9-6) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain fourth place, which they share with Tigers. Orion lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 11 games lost.

The most impressive performance of 15th round was 25 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals by Mohamed Doumbya of UGB.



Tigers - Azomco 106-76

Central African guard Kurt-Curry Wegscheider (196-2001, college: LCU) helped adding 32 points. The best for the losing side was DR Congolese power forward Garmine Kande (205-1999, agency: Helping Ballers) with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks and the former international center Olivier Shyaka (197-1995) scored 12 points and 9 rebounds. Another exciting game was again a derby match of two local teams from Kigali: UGB (#4) and Orion (#7). Orion was crushed at home by 47 points 74-121 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. UGB dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Orion's 50. UGB forced 29 Orion turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Orion's players. It was an exceptional evening for center Eric Kayondo who led the winners and scored 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Burundian center Mohamed Doumbya (-1997) accounted for 25 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winning side. UGB's coach Yves Murenzi felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest.
