D1 Round 17 (Regular Season): REG keeps a leadership position

There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in D1. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked REG as it allowed them to take a leadership position. REG smashed 6th ranked Gahini in Kigali 76-46. REG dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Gahini's 26. REG forced 24 Gahini turnovers and outrebounded them 52-31 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. REG looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Gahini's players. The best player for the winners was guard Jordan Umuhoza (-1996) who scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Gloriose Byukusenge (-2001) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. REG's coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Josephine Uwineza produced 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the guests. REG (14-1) have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Gahini at the other side keeps the sixth place with ten games lost. They share the position with EA Univ. Gahini will play next round against UR BBC trying to get back on the winning streak. REG will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked RP-IPRC Huye in Butare.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Cyabingo. Leader APR faced 3rd placed GSMRR. Guests from Kigali (13-0) smashed host GSMRR (10-4) 88-64. The former international center Charlotte Umugwaneza (195-1984) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 17 rebounds. Taylor Hosendove contributed with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Forward Brigitte Nibishaka (-2003) answered with 25 points and 9 rebounds for GSMRR. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the thirteenth consecutive win for APR. Defending champion maintains second place with 13-0 record behind leader REG. GSMRR at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. They share it with Kepler.
