RBL Round 15 (Regular Season): Patriots beat Kepler in a derby game

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in RBL. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kigali: Patriots (#1) and Kepler (#5). Patriots (13-0) won against visiting Kepler (6-7) 84-77. Patriots shot 23 for 33 from the free-throw line, while Kepler only scored seven points from the stripe. Patriots forced 23 Kepler turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Patriots made 10 blocks. The best player for the winners was American forward William Perry (183-1994, college: Lenoir-Rhyne) who scored 20 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. International forward Furaha Cadeaux de Dieu (203-1998, college: UAFS) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international forward Emile Kazeneza (203-2000, college: William Carey) who recorded 19 points and 7 rebounds. Kepler's coach Juruni Lutwama rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Undefeated Patriots have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 13-0 record. Newly promoted Kepler dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. Patriots' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kigali Espoir.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Kigali: REG (#3) and Orion (#8). REG (12-3) crushed visiting Orion (3-11) by 61 points 118-57. It was a good game for DR Congolese center Pitchou Kambuyi (208-1988) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists. Antino Jackson contributed with 18 points and 9 assists for the winners. REG's coach Charles Mushumba felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. South Sudanese forward Nyang Wek (198-1996) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds for Orion. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for REG. They maintain third place with 12-3 record behind leader Patriots. Orion lost their sixth game in a row. They keep the eighth position with 11 games lost. REG's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kigali to the arena K-Titans.

In the last two games of round 15 K-Titans were crushed by APR in Kigali 101-69. Winless Inspired Gen. was smashed by UGB at home 62-84.



APR - K-Titans 101-69

There was no surprise in Kigali where 9th ranked K-Titans (1-12) were crushed by second ranked APR (13-1) 101-69 on Friday. APR outrebounded K-Titans 51-35 including a 42-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. APR looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by K-Titans' players. It was a great evening for the former international forward Axel Mpoyo (203-1997, college: GSU) who led his team to a victory scoring 30 points and 6 rebounds. International forward Osborn Shema (213-1998, college: Iona) helped adding 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was American forward Kurt Hall (196, college: Ky Christian) with 35 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and Niyizibyose Janvier scored 14 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). The victory was the seventh consecutive win for APR. Defending champion maintains second place with 13-1 record having just one point less than leader Patriots. K-Titans lost their seventh game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 12 games lost. APR's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kigali to the arena Orion.

No shocking result in a game in Kigali where seventh ranked UGB (4-8) smashed bottom-ranked Inspired Gen. (0-14) 84-62 on Saturday. UGB dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Inspired Gen.'s 34. UGB forced 20 Inspired Gen. turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Inspired Gen.'s players. It was a great evening for Montenegrin Nemanja Milosevic (204-1987, college: WKU) who led his team to a victory scoring 31 points and 8 rebounds. American point guard Patrick Rembert (185-1990, college: UC Irvine) helped adding 18 points and 9 assists. Four UGB players scored in double figures. Coach Yves Murenzi's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was Freddy Kwizera (-1996) with 26 points and 9 rebounds and forward Patrick Rugamba produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds. UGB maintains seventh place with 4-8 record. Inspired Gen. lost their fourteenth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with 14 games lost.
