D1 Round 9 (Regular Season): Derby game ends with APR's defeat of Kepler

What a coincidence that all visitors won their games. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kigali: APR (#1) and Kepler (#4). Kepler was defeated at home 36-47 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. APR held Kepler to an opponent 20.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 21.2 percent accuracy of the winners. APR forced 21 Kepler turnovers and outrebounded them 61-40 including a 37-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for the former international center Assouma Uwizeye (182-1996) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds. The former international center Charlotte Umugwaneza (195-1984) contributed with 7 points and 20 rebounds for the winners. Nelly Akariza answered with 9 points and 16 rebounds for Kepler. Undefeated APR (9-0) have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with a perfect record of 9 victories in a row. Newly promoted Kepler dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. APR are looking forward to face EA Univ (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Kepler will have a break next round.
Bottom-ranked UR BBC is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their ninth consecutive match to fifth ranked RP-IPRC Huye (6-3) 95-54. The former international center Nicole Urwibutso (-1994) stepped up and scored 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and Santhiana Izere chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds. RP-IPRC Huye's coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was forward Valentine Mukasekuru with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. RP-IPRC Huye moved-up to fourth place. UR BBC lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with nine games lost. RP-IPRC Huye will play against league's second-placed REG in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. UR BBC will have a break next round.

The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. REG maintains second place with 8-1 record behind leader APR. EA Univ lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the seventh position with seven games lost. REG will meet at home RP-IPRC Huye (#4) in the next round. EA Univ will play against the league's leader APR in Kigali and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 9 The Hoops smashed UR Kigali on the road 93-35.

The game in supposed to be also quite interesting. Second ranked REG (8-1) played at the court of 7th ranked EA Univ (3-7). REG smashed EA Univ 103-52 on Wednesday. REG dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to EA Univ's 30 and made 25-of-30 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. REG forced 39 EA Univ turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by EA Univ's players. The former international point guard Rosine Micomyiza (-1995) nailed 30 points and 4 assists for the winning side and center Linda Uwitonze accounted for 20 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Five REG players scored in double figures. Princess Louaka came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and Gisele Makenga added 4 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for EA Univ in the defeat. The Hoops held UR Kigali to an opponent 15.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 37.1 percent accuracy of the winners. The Hoops forced 26 UR Kigali turnovers and outrebounded them 77-28 including a 36-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international center Jane Dusabe (-2005) nailed a double-double by scoring 26 points, 26 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and Rebecca Cyuzuzo (-2007) accounted for 14 points and 19 rebounds.
