Gran Canaria tabs Chimezie Metu

Chimezie Metu

Draemland Gran Canaria (Liga Endesa) signed 28-year old Nigerian-American 208cm power forward Chimezie Metu (college: USC). He was the second-best scorer at Barca (Liga Endesa) last season, averaging 13.2ppg, 3.8rpg, and 1.0apg in 20 games. Metu helped them reach the Supercup semifinals. He also played 24 games in Euroleague, where he averaged 11.0ppg and 4.8rpg.
During the 2023-24 season, he split time between the Pistons and the Suns in the NBA.
In 2018, he was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs (NBA) in the second round (49th overall). He graduated from the University of Southern California, and it is his eighth season in pro basketball.
Metu is a very experienced player. He has played professionally in other USA teams, NBA (Sacramento Kings), NBA G League (Austin Spurs), and NBA Summer League (Sacramento Kings).
Among many awards he received was the All-Pac-12 Most Improved Player of the Year award, and he was voted to All-Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention during his college time in 2017.
