Youth Empowerment, Democracy Celebrated Through Basketball in North Central Nigeria. Storm Basketball Club emerged champions of the inaugural North Central Basketball 3-on-3 Challenge (NCBC 3X3), held at the Sports Arena, Old Airport in Jos, Plateau State. The tournament, which brought together 36 teams from across the region, marked a significant step towards youth engagement and grassroots sports development in North Central Nigeria. The grand finale delivered high-octane action as Dam Foundation took early control of the game with flawless baskets. However, Storm staged a thrilling comeback, showcasing grit and determination to edge out Dam Foundation 13-11 in a gripping finish that had the crowd on its feet. The event, strategically timed to coincide with Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebrations, was not just a display of sporting excellence but a vehicle for social engagement. Tournament organizer Mr. Bek Jang, also the team manager of Hot Coal Basketball Club, emphasized that the initiative was designed to involve young people in constructive activities, promote basketball in the region, and foster unity through sports. “This is only the beginning,” Jang said. “Our goal is to take this championship across all North Central states, building a strong network of youth participation through basketball.” The NCBC 3X3 tournament featured an inclusive format with each team comprising three male players and one female, promoting gender balance in sports. In addition to the championship trophy, individual excellence was also celebrated, with awards presented for Best Player, Most Valuable Player, and several other categories. As the dust settles on the first edition, the excitement and potential of 3-on-3 basketball as a tool for empowerment and regional integration are clearer than ever. For Storm Basketball Club and many other participants, this tournament marks the beginning of a brighter, bolder future in Nigerian basketball.
