Nigeria qualified to the Olympics despite the loss to Belgium at the last day of the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Belgium posted a 78-61 win to finish second in the group with a 2-1 record, whilst Nigeria ended up third with a 1-2 record. The hosts of the event started with a 22-11 run and never looked behind after. They added a 23-13 surge in the third quarter and did not mind a 15-19 loss at the end.
Antonia Delaere (181-SG-1994) stepped up with 15 points and Emma Meesseman (192-C-1993, agency: LBM Management) poured in 14. Elizabeth Balogun (185-G/F-2000, college: Duke) answered with 17 in a loss, whilst Amy Okonkwo (188-F-1996, college: TCU) had 16.
