   #1. This week's number one is an international swingman Stan Okoye (198-91, college: VMI, currently plays in Spain). He led Zaragoza to a victory over the eighth-ranked Baskonia (13-9) 91-81 in the Spanish Liga Endesa last Thursday. Okoye was MVP of the game. He recorded 22 points and grabbed 7 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws). Tecnyconta Zaragozais placed in the Liga Endesa. Okoye has relatively good stats this season: 14.9ppg, 5.1rpg, 1.4apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 44.4%, 3FGP: 43.7% and FT: 77.6%. He has a dual citizenship: Nigerian and American. Okoye is currently a member of the Nigerian senior national team.

Josh-Emmanuel Akognon

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced former international point guard Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (180-86, college: CS Fullerton, currently plays in China). He was the main contributor in Henan's victory against one of league's weakest teams Anhui Putianxingfa (1-6) 128-115 in the Chinese NBL (second division) on Sunday night. Akognon was the best player in that game. He recorded 40 points (!!!) and added 9 assists in 38 minutes. Henan Shedianlaojiu (5-2) is placed fourth in the NBL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Akognon has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 34.1ppg, 2.3rpg, 6.7apg, 2.3spg, 2FGP: 63.9%(46-72), 3FGP: 51.3%(39-76) and FT: 93.8%(30-32) in seven games he played so far. Akognon is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American. He played for the Nigerian national team in 2016.

Talib Zanna

   #3. The Nigerian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Talib Zanna (206-90, college: Pittsburgh, currently plays in Israel). Zanna could not help Ironi Nes-Ziona (15-18) in their last game on Monday. Despite his very good performance Ironi Nes-Ziona was defeated 98-90 on the road by the higher-ranked Hapoel Eilat (#4). Zanna recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 12 rebounds. He also added 3 assists. This season Zanna has relatively solid stats: 13.4ppg, 7.5rpg, 1.1apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 52.8% and FT: 63.1%. He is also a member of the Nigerian senior national team.

Thanasis Antetokounmpo

   #4. Small forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo (199-92, currently plays in Greece) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Peristeri GS (17-9) crushing them 86-66 in a derby game in the Greek A1 last Saturday. Antetokounmpo scored 6 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 18 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens (21-1) is placed first in the A1. This year Antetokounmpo's overall stats are: 4.8ppg and 3.5rpg in 21 games. He has both Nigerian and Greek nationalities. Antetokounmpo used to play for the Nigerian national team back in 2016.

   #5. Former international power forward Suleiman Braimoh (203-89, college: Rice, currently plays in Israel) contributed to a Hapoel Eilat's victory against the closely-ranked Ironi Nes-Ziona (15-18) 84-76 in the Israeli Winner League on Friday night. He recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 14 rebounds. Braimoh also added 5 blocks. Hapoel Eilat (22-11) is placed fourth in the Winner League. This season Braimoh has very high stats. He averages: 15.4ppg, 6.1rpg, 1.5apg, 1.3bpg and 1.4spg. Braimoh used to play for the Nigerian national team three years ago.

Obi Emegano

   #6. Guard Obi Emegano (190-93, college: ORU, currently plays in France) was not able to help JDA Dijon (23-11) in their last game. Despite his good performance JDA Dijon lost 75-84 on the opponent's court to the much lower-ranked (#10) Monaco. Emegano scored 13 points in 27 minutes. It's Emegano's first season with the team. This year his total stats are: 8.1ppg and 2.3rpg in 39 games. Emegano is an international player who is currently on the senior Nigerian National Team roster.

   #7. International point guard Michael Umeh (188-84, college: UNLV, currently plays in Poland) was not able to secure a victory for Twarde Pierniki (24-6) in their game against Anwil (22-8) in the Polish EBL. Despite his very good performance last Tuesday He was the second best scorer with 14 points. Umeh has reliable stats this season: 11.6ppg, 2.0rpg and 2.5apg. He also holds two passports: Nigerian and American. Umeh is also Nigerian national team player.

   #8. Power forward Gani Lawal (206-88, college: Georgia Tech, currently plays in Philippines) helped Meralco Bolts win their game against one of league's weakest teams Rain or Shine (0-2) 91-84 in a derby game in the Filipino PBA last Friday. Lawal was the top player that evening. He had a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 12 rebounds in 30 minutes. Meralco Bolts (2-2) are placed sixth in the PBA. Lawal has very impressive stats this year: 29.0ppg, 20.0rpg and 1.3apg in four games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Lawal used to play for the Nigerian national team back in 2013.

   #9. Former international power forward Trevor Mbakwe (207-89, agency: Pensack Sports, college: Minnesota, currently plays in Greece) managed to help AEK Athens in a victory against the closely-ranked Promitheas (16-10) crushing them 88-60 in the Greek A1 on Monday night. Mbakwe scored only 2 points in 17 minutes. AEK Athens (18-8) is placed third in the A1. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. Mbakwe has averaged so far 2.7ppg and 3.3rpg in nine games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Mbakwe used to play for the Nigerian national team three years ago.

   #10. Guard Caleb Agada (193-94, agency: DMG Sports, college: Ottawa, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Melilla Baloncesto (21-13) in their game against RETAbet BB (24-10) in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). Despite his very good performance in Saturday night's game He was the top scorer with 18 points. Agada also added 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. Agada's stats this season are: 13.0ppg, 6.6rpg, 2.5apg and 2.4spg. Despite he played previously for the Canadian university national team, Agada is also an international player who is currently on the senior Nigerian National Team roster.

   #11. International center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, agency: BeoBasket, college: Chicago St., currently plays in Puerto Rico) couldn't help Capitanes in their game against Leones in the Puerto Rican BSN. He scored 7 points and added 3 passes in 16 minutes. His team lost 94-103. Akindele's stats this year are: 10.9ppg, 9.8rpg, 2.3apg and 1.1bpg in 15 games. He plays currently for the Nigerian national team.

   #12. Former U22 international power forward Dinma Odiakosa (203-85, college: Illinois St., currently plays in France) couldn't help Sluc Nancy in their game against Saint Chamond in the French ProB (second division). Odiakosa scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 21 minutes. His team was edged 84-83. Odiakosa has averaged so far 6.6ppg and 5.7rpg in 36 games. He used to play for the Nigerian U22 national team back in 2004.

   #13. Former international guard Anthony Odunsi (193-92, agency: Haylett Sports, college: Houston Baptist, currently plays in Australia) was the major contributor in a Diamond Valley Eagles' victory against the 12th-ranked Frankston Blues 99-86 in the Australian State League (second division) last Saturday. Odunsi scored 22 points, grabbed 5 boards, dished 6 assists and stole 4 balls. Odunsi averaged so far 13.0ppg, 4.1rpg and 2.9apg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Odunsi used to play for the Nigerian national team two years ago.

   #14. International power forward Lotanna Nwogbo (203-93, college: Longwood, currently plays in Argentina) couldn't help Atenas in their game against CA Platense in the Argentinian La Liga Argentina (second division), despite his very good performance on Sunday night. He was the top scorer with 13 points. Nwogbo also added 4 rebounds (was perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line) in 30 minutes. But his team lost 70-84. Nwogbo has very impressive stats this year: 15.8ppg, 7.9rpg and 1.5bpg in 54 games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Nwogbo plays currently for the Nigerian national team.

   #15. International power forward Alade Aminu (207-87, college: Georgia Tech, currently plays in Israel) couldn't help Hapoel Tel-Aviv in their game against Maccabi T-A in the Israeli Winner League. He cannot count Thursday's game as one of the best ones. Aminu scored only one point. His team was crushed by 24 points 87-63. Aminu has averaged so far 8.3ppg and 6.0rpg. He is also in the roster of the Nigerian national team.


The list of other players, who all have Nigerian passport but never been selected to any of Nigerian national teams:

   #1. Michael Ojo (216-C-93, college: FSU, currently plays in Serbia) led Crvena Zvezda to a victory against the second-ranked Mega Bemax (7-5) 96-91 in the Serbian KLS in Tuesday night's game. Ojo scored 14 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 23 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his second season in pro basketball. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in Group A. Crvena Zvezda MTS Beograd (12-0) is placed first. So far his team won all twelve games in the Semifinals. The Semifinals already ended. It's Ojo's first year with the team. This season Ojo averages: 8.8ppg and 5.2rpg in 12 games he played so far. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

   #2. Chris Otule (211-C-90, agency: Octagon Europe, college: Marquette, currently plays in China) could not help Guizhou (4-3) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Guizhou lost 104-111 on the road to the lower-ranked (#7) Chongqing. Otule had a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 15 rebounds in 41 minutes. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Otule has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 22.1ppg, 14.6rpg and 3.0bpg in seven games. Otule has a dual citizenship: Nigerian and American.

   #3. Moses Kingsley (208-F-94, college: Arkansas, currently plays in Belgium) managed to help Telenet Giants Antwerp to win against the closely-ranked Basic-Fit Brussels (21-15) 80-68 in the Belgian Euromillions League in Friday night's game. He recorded 5 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Telenet Giants Antwerp (30-6) is placed first in the Euromillions League. It was his team's tenth consecutive victory in a row. Kingsley has averaged so far 7.5ppg and 5.1rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American.

   #4. Christian Nwogbo (201-F-91, also represented by Octagon Europe, college: Cedarville, currently plays in France) contributed to a 2-point SPO Rouen's victory against the eighth-ranked ADA Blois (19-15) 72-70 in the French ProB (second division) on Saturday night. He recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 10 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Rouen Metropole Basket (24-10) is placed fourth in the ProB. It was his team's eighth consecutive victory in a row. Nwogbo's stats this season are: 12.6ppg, 5.5rpg, 1.4apg and 1.2spg. He has both American and Nigerian nationalities.

   #5. Nnanna Egwu (211-C-92, college: Illinois, currently plays in New Zealand) was not able to help Rangers (2-9) in their last game. Despite Egwu's very good performance Rangers lost 104-108 at home to the higher-ranked (#5) Huskies. He was the top scorer with 23 points. Egwu also added 6 boards, handed out 3 passes and blocked 4 shots in 38 minutes. It was Rangers' fifth consecutive loss in a row. Egwu's stats this year are: 11.9ppg, 6.8rpg, 1.8apg, 2.1bpg and 1.4spg in 11 games. He also holds two passports: Nigerian and American.

   #6. Michael Fakuade (201-F-89, college: Ill.-Springfield, currently plays in France) contributed to a Entente Orleans 45's victory against the tenth-ranked Poitiers 81-67 in the French ProB (second division) last Thursday. Fakuade recorded 12 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. Fakuade's stats this season are: 10.7ppg, 6.1rpg, 1.4apg and 1.2bpg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports.

   #7. Experienced Robert Anshila (199-F-86, college: Ft.Hays State, currently plays in Australia) helped Senators win their game against the seventh-ranked Giants crushing them 115-87 in the Australian State League (second division) on Sunday night. He recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and getting 12 rebounds. Anshila averaged so far 12.7ppg, 6.9rpg and 2.3apg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Anshila attended previously one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.
