We bring you last week's top performances from Nigerians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is former international forward Melvin Ejim (201-91, college: Iowa St., currently plays in VTB United League). He was the major contributor in an Unics Kazan's victory against the seventh-ranked Kalev/Cramo (14-12) 92-82 in the VTB United League last Friday. Ejim recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 4 assists. Unics Kazan (21-5) is placed second in the VTB United League. This season Ejim averages: 8.6ppg, 5.6rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 54.7%, 3FGP: 36.2% and FT: 81.1%. He has a dual citizenship: Canadian and Nigerian. Ejim played for the Nigerian senior national team seven years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international swingman Stan Okoye (198-91, college: VMI, currently plays in Spain). He led Zaragoza to a victory over the 11th-ranked Burgos (13-18) 89-81 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Thursday night. Okoye was MVP of the game. He recorded 23 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists in 32 minutes. Tecnyconta Zaragoza (16-14) is placed seventh in the Liga Endesa. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Okoye has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.5ppg, 4.9rpg, 1.2apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 47.4%, 3FGP: 45.3%(73-161) and FT: 77.3% in 29 games he played so far. Okoye is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American. He is in the roster of the Nigerian senior national team.

The Nigerian player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced international center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, agency: BeoBasket, college: Chicago St., currently plays in Puerto Rico). Akindele could not help Capitanes (14-13) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his very good performance Capitanes was edged 104-102 on the road by the lower-ranked Leones (#4). Akindele recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and getting 13 rebounds. Akindele has relatively good stats this season: 11.3ppg, 11.0rpg, 3.4apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 68.4%(26-38) and FT: 79.4%. He is also a member of the Nigerian senior national team.

   #4. Forward Al-Farouq Aminu (206-90, college: Wake Forest, currently plays in NBA) was not able to help the Portland Trail Blazers (53-29) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his very good performance the Portland Trail Blazers (53-29) were defeated 116-112 in Denver by the Nuggets. Aminu recorded 19 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. It's Aminu's fourth season with the team. This year he has relatively solid stats: 9.4ppg, 7.5rpg and 1.3apg. Aminu has both American and Nigerian nationalities. Despite he played previously for the USA U19 national team, Aminu is currently in the Nigerian national team roster.

Former international power forward Suleiman Braimoh (203-89, college: Rice, currently plays in Israel) contributed to a Hapoel Eilat's victory against the closely-ranked Beer Sheva (14-16) 64-52 in the Israeli Winner League last Sunday. Braimoh recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 17 rebounds. Hapoel Eilat (21-9) is placed fourth in the Winner League. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. It's Braimoh's first season with the team. This year he has very high stats. Braimoh averages: 15.7ppg, 5.7rpg, 1.5apg and 1.5spg. He used to play for the Nigerian national team three years ago.

Point guard Michael Umeh (188-84, college: UNLV, currently plays in Poland) helped Twarde Pierniki win their game against the seventh-ranked Wilki Morskie (15-15) 91-85 in the Polish EBL in Sunday night's game. Umeh scored 14 points. Polski Cukier Torun (24-6) is placed second in the EBL. Umeh has reliable stats this season: 12.5ppg, 2.2rpg and 2.6apg. He also holds two passports: Nigerian and American. Umeh is an international player who is currently on the senior Nigerian National Team roster.

Former international small forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo (199-92, currently plays in Greece) managed to help Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens in a victory against the eighth-ranked Holargos (12-14) 81-64 in the Greek A1 last Saturday. He scored only 4 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 8 minutes on the court. Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens (21-1) is placed first in the A1. The Regular Season already ended. This year Antetokounmpo's overall stats are: 5.1ppg and 3.5rpg in 18 games. He used to play for the Nigerian national team three years ago.

Iroegbu scored 11 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Panevezys Lietkabelis (23-13) is placed fourth in the LKL. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. Iroegbu's stats this season are: 14.1ppg, 3.5rpg and 3.1apg. He plays currently for the Nigerian national team.

Despite Ibekwe's very good performance Levallois was edged 80-79 at home by the higher-ranked (#10) Monaco. He recorded 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 29 minutes. It was Levallois' sixth consecutive loss in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. This year Ibekwe's total stats are: 6.9ppg and 4.7rpg in 29 games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Ibekwe is also in the roster of the Nigerian national team.

Center Tonye Jekiri (213-94, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Turkey) helped Gaziantep win their game against one of league's weakest teams Afyon Bld (6-21) crushing them 89-63 in the Turkish BSL last Saturday. Jekiri scored 6 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 18 minutes. Gaziantep Basketbol (17-10) is placed fifth in the BSL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. Jekiri's stats this year are: 12.2ppg, 10.4rpg, 2.4apg and 1.1spg in 27 games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Nigerian National Team roster.

   #11. International guard Obi Emegano (190-93, college: ORU, currently plays in France) helped JDA Dijon win their game against the 13th-ranked Boulazac Basket 84-73 in the French Jeep ELITE ProA last Tuesday. Emegano scored 9 points. Emegano has averaged so far 7.3ppg, 2.3rpg and 1.1spg. He plays currently for the Nigerian national team.

   #12. Former international power forward Trevor Mbakwe (207-89, agency: Pensack Sports, college: Minnesota, currently plays in Greece) helped AEK win their game against the league outsider Kolossos HH crushing them 106-69 in the Greek A1 on Wednesday night. Mbakwe scored only 4 points in 15 minutes. It was his first game for AEK this season. Mbakwe holds both American and Nigerian passports. He used to play for the Nigerian national team back in 2016.

   #13. International power forward Lotanna Nwogbo (203-93, college: Longwood, currently plays in Argentina) was the main contributor in Atenas' victory against the 12th-ranked Racing Chivilcoy 81-74 in the Argentinian La Liga Argentina (second division) last Friday. Nwogbo was the best player in that game. He had a double-double by scoring 33 points and getting 10 rebounds in 29 minutes. Nwogbo has very impressive stats this year: 16.0ppg, 8.1rpg and 1.3bpg in 46 games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Nwogbo is also Nigerian national team player.

   #14. International power forward Talib Zanna (206-90, college: Pittsburgh, currently plays in Israel) couldn't help Ironi Nes-Ziona in their game against Maccabi Ashdod in the Israeli Winner League. He scored 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. His team was defeated 101-92. Zanna averaged so far 13.1ppg, 6.9rpg and 1.3spg. He plays currently for the Nigerian national team.

   #15. International guard Caleb Agada (193-94, agency: Blacktop Management, college: Ottawa, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Melilla Baloncesto (21-13) in their last game. Despite Agada's very good performance Melilla Baloncesto was edged 78-76 in Valladolid by the lower-ranked (#6) Carramimbre. He was the top scorer with 20 points. Agada also added 4 rebounds and 5 assists in 28 minutes. Agada averaged so far 12.3ppg, 6.3rpg, 2.3apg and 2.3spg in 32 games. Despite he played previously for the Canadian university national team, Agada is currently in the Nigerian national team roster.


The list of other players, who all have Nigerian passport but never been selected to any of Nigerian national teams:

   #1. Giannis Antetokounmpo (211-G/F-94, agency: Octagon Europe, currently plays in NBA) led Milwaukee Bucks to a victory over the Boston Celtics (49-33) 113-101 in the NBA in Monday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Antetokounmpo had a double-double by scoring 39 points and getting 16 rebounds. He also added 4 assists in 34 minutes. The Milwaukee Bucks have a solid 60-22 record this season. It's Antetokounmpo's sixth year with the team. Antetokounmpo has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 27.7ppg, 12.4rpg, 5.7apg, 1.5bpg and 1.2spg in 81 games he played so far. Antetokounmpo has a dual citizenship: Greek and Nigerian.

   #2. Micheal Eric (210-C-88, college: Temple, currently plays in Turkey) was the major contributor in Darussafaka's victory against the seventh-ranked Turk Telekom (15-12) 87-80 in the Turkish BSL last Friday. Eric had a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 13 rebounds in 31 minutes. Darussafaka Istanbul (14-4) is placed third in the BSL. His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. This year Eric has relatively solid stats: 13.1ppg and 6.2rpg in 22 games.

   #3. Michael Ojo (216-C-93, college: FSU, currently plays in Serbia) contributed to an easy victory against the fourth-ranked OKK Beograd (1-3) crushing them 82-50 in a derby game in the Serbian KLS in Wednesday night's game. Ojo recorded 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in only 14 minutes. Crvena Zvezda MTS Beograd (4-0) is placed first in Group A. So far his team won all four games in the Second Stage. It's Ojo's first season with the team. This year his overall stats are: 7.0ppg and 6.3rpg in four games. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

   #4. O.D. Anosike (203-F/C-91, agency: Alti Sport, college: Siena, currently plays in France) was the main contributor in a Le Portel's surprising victory against the fourth-ranked Chalons-Reims (21-11) 83-81 in the French Jeep ELITE ProA on Friday night. Anosike was the best player in that game. He had a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 12 rebounds. Anosike also added 4 assists in 36 minutes. ESSM Le Portel Cote d'Opale (13-19) is placed 11th in the Jeep ELITE ProA. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Anosike has reliable stats this year: 11.5ppg, 8.6rpg and 2.2apg in 25 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American.

   #5. Chima Moneke (198-F-95, college: UC Davis, currently plays in France) contributed to a Denain Voltaire's victory against one of league's weakest teams Caen (8-23) 83-69 in the French ProB (second division) on Tuesday night. Moneke recorded 22 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his third season in pro basketball. Denain ASC Voltaire (11-20) is placed 15th in the ProB. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. Moneke's stats this season are: 14.8ppg, 6.8rpg, 1.8apg and 1.3spg.

   #6. Zaid Hearst (193-G-92, college: Quinnipiac, currently plays in Lithuania) helped Nevezis win their game against the fifth-ranked P.Zvaigzdes 90-86 in the Lithuanian LKL in Sunday night's game. He was the best player in that game. Hearst scored 25 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) in 30 minutes. Hearst's stats this year are: 14.9ppg, 2.6rpg and 1.1apg in 16 games. He has both American and Nigerian nationalities.

   #7. Experienced Kieron Achara (208-F-83, agency: Two Points, college: Duquesne, currently plays in United Kingdom) helped Glasgow Rocks win their game against the closely-ranked London CR 72-65 in the British BBL in Sunday night's game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 10 rebounds. Achara also added 4 assists, 3 blocks and 5 steals. Achara averaged so far 11.7ppg, 6.2rpg, 1.6apg, 1.2bpg and 1.2spg. He also holds two passports: Scottish and Nigerian.

   #8. Ike Joseph Udanoh (203-PF-89, college: Wayne St., MI, currently plays in Italy). Udanoh could not help Sidigas AV to beat Happy Casa BR. He scored 6 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. His team was defeated 87-83. Udanoh averaged so far 11.7ppg, 7.7rpg, 2.8apg and 1.1spg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports.

   #9. Danny Agbelese (206-F/C-90, also represented by Octagon Europe, college: Hampton, currently plays in Greece) was not able to help Holargos (12-14) in their last game. Despite Agbelese's good performance Holargos was badly defeated 81-64 at home by the leading Panathinaikos. He was the top scorer with 12 points. Agbelese also added 8 rebounds in 27 minutes. Agbelese has averaged so far 8.3ppg, 7.1rpg and 1.8bpg in 26 games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports.

   #10. Christian Nwogbo (201-F-91, another player represented by Octagon Europe, college: Cedarville, currently plays in France) helped SPO Rouen win their game against the eighth-ranked ADA Blois crushing them 82-55 in the French ProB (second division) in Friday night's game. Nwogbo scored 16 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Nwogbo averaged so far 12.5ppg, 5.5rpg, 1.1apg and 1.3spg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports.

A total of thirty six teams will take part in the 2019 edition of Youth Alive Championship in three different categories. This was disclosed by Youth Alive coordinator, Gbade Olatona who gave the break down as comprising mixed UK with eight teams, eight teams will compete for honours in the U16 girls cadre while fourteen teams will jostle for honours in the U16 boys category.
