Here is the weekly review of the top performing Nigerian players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced former international point guard Michael Umeh (188-84, college: UNLV, currently plays in Poland). He could not help Twarde Pierniki (15-4) in their last game. Despite Umeh's very good performance Twarde Pierniki lost 80-89 on the road to the lower-ranked (#4) Anwil. He was the top scorer with 20 points. Umeh also added 2 blocks in 31 minutes on the court. It was Twarde Pierniki's first loss after six consecutive victories. Umeh has relatively good stats this year: 14.2ppg, 2.2rpg, 3.0apg, 2FGP: 58.0%(29-50), 3FGP: 45.5%(35-77) and FT: 91.3%(21-23) in 13 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Nigerian and American. Umeh played for the Nigerian senior national team three years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international guard Ike Iroegbu (188-95, college: Washington St., currently plays in Lithuania). He was the major contributor in Lietkabelis' victory against the eighth-ranked Prienu Skycop (7-15) 92-74 in the Lithuanian LKL in Saturday night's game. Iroegbu recorded 17 points and added 6 passes; not bad, considering it's only his second season in pro basketball. Panevezys Lietkabelis (13-8) is placed fourth in the LKL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Iroegbu has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 15.5ppg, 3.0rpg, 5.0apg, 2FGP: 62.5%(10-16) and FT: 66.7%. Iroegbu is in the roster of the Nigerian senior national team.

Abdullahi Kuso

   #3. The Nigerian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international forward Abdullahi Kuso (206-84, college: Tallahassee CC, currently plays in Japan). He led Gunma to a victory over the third-ranked Nishinomiya Storks (19-20) 75-57 in the Japanese B2 League last Saturday. Kuso was MVP of the game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 16 rebounds. Kuso also added 8 assists. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group East. Gunma Crane Thunders (28-11) are placed first. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. It's Kuso's first season with the team. This year he has very high stats. Kuso averages: 15.4ppg, 10.7rpg, 3.3apg, 2.0bpg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 52.1% and FT: 71.0%. He played for the Nigerian national team twelve years ago.

Josh-Emmanuel Akognon

   #4. Point guard Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (180-86, college: CS Fullerton, currently plays in South Korea) was the main contributor in a Goyang Orions' victory against the league outsider Samsung Thunders (10-34) 88-80 in the South Korean KBL last Thursday. Akognon was the best player in that game. He scored 22 points and added 3 passes in a mere 18 minutes. Goyang Orions (22-22) are placed fifth in the KBL. Akognon has very impressive stats this year: 15.8ppg and 1.8apg in five games. He is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American. Akognon used to play for the Nigerian national team back in 2016.

   #5. International forward Al-Farouq Aminu (206-90, college: Wake Forest, currently plays in NBA) was not able to help the Portland Trail Blazers (34-23) in their last game. Despite Aminu's good performance the Portland Trail Blazers (34-23) lost 111-120 in Oklahoma City to the Thunder. He scored 13 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 33 minutes. Aminu is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Trail Blazers' roster. This season Aminu has relatively solid stats: 9.4ppg, 7.9rpg and 1.3apg in 57 games. He has both American and Nigerian nationalities. Despite Aminu played previously for the USA U19 national team, he is currently in the Nigerian national team roster.

   #6. Center Ekenechukwu Ibekwe (207-85, college: Maryland, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for Levallois (10-10) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Ibekwe's very good performance Levallois was defeated 80-69 in Le Mans by the lower-ranked Le Mans (#12). He was the second best scorer with 19 points. Ibekwe also added 5 rebounds. Ibekwe's overall stats this season are: 6.9ppg and 4.1rpg. He also holds two passports: Nigerian and American. Ibekwe is a former international player as he played for the Nigerian senior team three years ago.

   #7. Former international power forward Gani Lawal (206-88, agency: Octagon Europe, college: Georgia Tech, currently plays in Japan) couldn't help Shiga L-Stars (8-32) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the sixth-placed Shiga L-Stars (8-32) lost 70-83 in Tokyo to the higher-ranked (#3) Toyota Alvark in the West group. Lawal had a double-double by scoring 33 points and getting 14 rebounds in 38 minutes. It was Shiga L-Stars' fourth consecutive loss in a row. Lawal has very impressive stats this year: 20.9ppg, 12.3rpg, 1.6apg and 1.4bpg in 37 games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Lawal used to play for the Nigerian national team six years ago.

   #8. Forward Melvin Ejim (201-91, college: Iowa St., currently plays in VTB United League) contributed to a 3-point Unics Kazan's victory against the league leader CSKA (16-2) 71-68 in the VTB United League last Monday. Ejim recorded 9 points in 28 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Unics Kazan (13-3) is placed second in the VTB United League. There are only four games left until the end of the VTB United League Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This year Ejim's overall stats are: 7.3ppg and 5.8rpg in eight games. He used to play for the Nigerian national team back in 2012.

   #9. International center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, agency: BeoBasket, college: Chicago St., currently plays in Mexico) couldn't help Fuerza Regia (29-9) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Akindele's good performance Fuerza Regia was crushed 104-82 by the lower-ranked Lenadores (#3) in the North group. He recorded 12 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This season Akindele has very high stats. He averages: 18.0ppg, 8.8rpg and 2.6apg. Akindele is also in the roster of the Nigerian national team.

   #10. Small forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo (199-92, currently plays in Euroleague) couldn't help Panathinaikos (9-13) in their game against Fenerbahce (8-5) in the Euroleague. He recorded 6 points in only 12 minutes. Panathinaikos was badly defeated 85-66 in Istanbul by the much higher-ranked (#3) Fenerbahce. This year Antetokounmpo's total stats are: 4.9ppg and 1.6rpg in 19 games. He is a former international player as three years ago he still played for the Nigerian senior national team.

   #11. International guard Obi Emegano (190-93, college: ORU, currently plays in France) contributed to a JDA Dijon's victory against the 11th-ranked JSF Nanterre 87-81 in the French Jeep ELITE last Saturday. Emegano scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Emegano has averaged so far 7.5ppg and 2.6rpg. He plays currently for the Nigerian national team.

   #12. Former international power forward Trevor Mbakwe (207-89, agency: Pensack Sports, college: Minnesota, currently plays in Japan) couldn't help Osaka Evessa (15-25) in their last game. Despite Mbakwe's very good performance Osaka Evessa (#4) was crushed 100-72 in Toyama by the lower-ranked (#4) Grouses in the West group. He had a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 10 rebounds. Mbakwe also added 3 assists in 29 minutes. Mbakwe has averaged so far 9.4ppg, 7.4rpg and 2.3apg in eight games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Despite Mbakwe played previously for the USA university national team, he is currently in the Nigerian national team roster.

   #13. International power forward Talib Zanna (206-90, college: Pittsburgh, currently plays in Israel) couldn't help Ironi Nes-Ziona (8-9) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Zanna's good performance Ironi Nes-Ziona was defeated 80-75 in Ashdod by the lower-ranked Maccabi (#9). He recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting the same number of rebounds. Zanna has averaged so far 8.8ppg and 7.8rpg. He is also Nigerian national team player.

   #14. International forward Jordan Nwora (203-98, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA couldn't help the the league outsider Louisville in their last game. Despite Nwora's very good performance the Louisville was edged 71-69 in Durham by the Duke University. He had a double-double by scoring 23 points and getting 12 rebounds. Nwora also added 3 assists in 36 minutes. Nwora has very impressive stats this year: 17.8ppg, 7.8rpg and 1.6apg in 25 games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Nwora plays currently for the Nigerian national team.

   #15. International swingman Stan Okoye (198-91, college: VMI, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Zaragoza in their game against Joventut in the Spanish Liga Endesa. He scored only 4 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. His team was defeated 88-73. Okoye has reliable stats this season: 13.9ppg and 5.1rpg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Okoye is also in the roster of the Nigerian national team.


The list of other players, who all have Nigerian passport but never been selected to any of Nigerian national teams:

   #1. Giannis Antetokounmpo (211-G/F-94, agency: Octagon Europe, currently plays in NBA) led Milwaukee Bucks to a victory over the Indiana Pacers (38-20) 106-97 in the NBA in Wednesday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Antetokounmpo had a triple-double by scoring 33 points, grabbing 19 rebounds and passing 11 assists in 38 minutes. The Milwaukee Bucks have a very good 43-14 record this season. It's Antetokounmpo's sixth year with the team. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Antetokounmpo averages: 27.2ppg, 12.7rpg, 6.0apg, 1.4bpg and 1.4spg in 53 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Greek and Nigerian.

   #2. Tonye Jekiri (213-C-94, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Turkey) was the major contributor in Gaziantep's victory against the 13th-ranked Sakarya BSB (5-12) crushing them 83-58 in the Turkish BSL last Saturday. Jekiri scored 17 points, had 9 boards, dished 5 assists and stole 4 balls; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his third season in pro basketball. Gaziantep Basketbol (10-7) is placed fifth in the BSL. It's Jekiri's first year with the team. Jekiri has relatively good stats this season: 12.4ppg, 10.6rpg, 1.7apg and 1.1spg.

   #3. Abdul-Malik Abu (203-F-95, college: NC State, currently plays in Alpe-Adria-Cup) could not help KK Vrijednosnice Osijek (4-2) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the first-placed KK Vrijednosnice Osijek (4-2) lost 73-87 on the road to the second-ranked Levice in the group B of Alpe Adria Cup. Abu was the top scorer with 21 points. He also added 5 rebounds in 29 minutes. It's Abu's first season with the team. Abu has very impressive stats this year: 15.9ppg and 6.8rpg in eight games.

   #4. Deuce Bello (192-G-92, college: E.Tenn.St., currently plays in Africa Basketball League) was not able to help one of league's weakest teams Al Ahly (2-1) in their last game on Friday. Despite his good performance Al Ahly was defeated 86-77 in Luanda by the leading 1 De Agosto. Bello recorded 14 points and blocked 2 blocks. The Regular Season already ended in the Africa Basketball League. This season Bello has relatively solid stats: 10.3ppg and 2.0rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American.

   #5. Michael Ojo (216-C-93, college: Florida St., currently plays in ABA League) contributed to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked Mornar Bar (7-12) crushing them 90-57 in the ABA League in Saturday night's game. He recorded 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 16 minutes. Crvena Zvezda MTS Beograd (18-1) is placed first in the ABA League. There are only three games left until the end of the ABA League Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This year Ojo's overall stats are: 8.2ppg and 5.9rpg in 19 games. Worth to mention Ojo played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

   #6. Josh Okogie (193-G-98, college: Georgia Tech, currently plays in NBA) contributed to a Minnesota Timberwolves' victory against the Houston Rockets 121-111 in the NBA on Wednesday night. Okogie scored 16 points and added 4 assists in 32 minutes. This year he has relatively solid stats: 7.6ppg, 3.0rpg and 1.2apg in 49 games. Okogie has both American and Nigerian nationalities. Despite his Nigerian passport, Okogie previously played for the USA U19 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Nigerian team.

   #7. Peter Olisemeka (204-C-91, currently plays in Bulgaria) helped Academik Plovdiv win their game against the league outsider Cherno More 92-80 in the Bulgarian NBL in Saturday night's game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 13 rebounds. This season Olisemeka has relatively solid stats: 12.9ppg, 12.4rpg, 1.2bpg and 1.1spg. He also holds two passports: Nigerian and Italian.

   #8. TK Edogi (203-F-94, college: Iona, currently plays in Turkey) faced previously mentioned Tonye Jekiri in the Turkish BSL last game. Edogi was not able to secure a victory for Sakarya BSB in their game against Gaziantep. Despite his very good performance on Saturday night He recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 10 rebounds. This season Edogi has relatively solid stats: 10.9ppg and 5.9rpg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports.

   #9. Chris Otule (211-C-90, college: Marquette, currently plays in France) couldn't help Olympique Antibes in their game against Chalons-Reims in the French Jeep ELITE. Despite his very good performance in Friday night's game He was the top scorer with 26 points. Otule also added 6 rebounds. Otule has reliable stats this season: 12.4ppg and 3.8rpg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports.

   #10. Christian Nwogbo (190-F-91, also represented by Octagon Europe, college: Cedarville, currently plays in France) helped SPO Rouen win their game against the 14th-ranked ALM Evreux 88-76 in the French ProB (second division) last Friday. Nwogbo scored 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 31 minutes. Nwogbo has reliable stats this year: 10.6ppg, 5.5rpg, 1.2apg and 1.1spg in 17 games. A total of thirty six teams will take part in the 2019 edition of Youth Alive Championship in three different categories.
