Here is the weekly review of the top performing Nigerian players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced international center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, agency: BeoBasket, college: Chicago St., currently plays in Mexico). Akindele led Fuerza Regia to a victory over the sixth-ranked Santos (11-25) 94-85 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) last Friday. He was MVP of the game. Akindele recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 13 rebounds. He also added 7 assists. Fuerza Regia Monterrey (29-7) is placed first in North group. It was his team's 13th consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Akindele's first season with the team. Akindele has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 18.4ppg, 9.0rpg, 2.8apg, 2FGP: 65.0%(219-337) and FT: 73.8%. Akindele is currently a member of the Nigerian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international swingman Stan Okoye (198-91, college: VMI, currently plays in Spain). He was the main contributor in Zaragoza's victory against the 15th-ranked Leche Rio Breogan (6-12) 83-69 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Saturday night. Okoye was the best player in that game. He recorded 22 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks in 27 minutes. Tecnyconta Zaragoza (10-9) is placed tenth in the Liga Endesa. Okoye has relatively good stats this year: 14.5ppg, 4.7rpg, 2FGP: 50.5%, 3FGP: 41.6% and FT: 71.4% in 17 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Nigerian and American. Okoye is in the roster of the Nigerian senior national team.

   #3. The Nigerian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard Michael Efevberha (193-84, agency: Octagon Europe, college: CS Northridge, currently plays in Lebanon). He contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Hoops Club (4-7) 87-71 in a derby game in the Lebanese LBL in Thursday night's game. Efevberha was the top player that evening. He recorded 28 points (!!!) and blocked 3 blocks. Homentmen Beirut (9-2) is placed second in the LBL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This season Efevberha has very high stats. He averages: 21.1ppg, 4.4rpg, 1.8apg, 1.6spg, 2FGP: 48.2%, 3FGP: 52.9%(37-70). Efevberha is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American. He is also a member of the Nigerian senior national team.

Guard Ike Iroegbu (188-95, college: Washington St., currently plays in Lithuania) was the major contributor in Lietkabelis' victory against the league outsider Siauliai (3-18) 95-83 in the Lithuanian LKL on Saturday night. He scored 14 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists in only a mere 14 minutes. It was his first game for Lietkabelis this season. His team is placed fourth in the LKL. Iroegbu is also Nigerian national team player.

International power forward Talib Zanna (206-90, college: Pittsburgh, currently plays in FIBA Europe Cup) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Alba (3-3) 96-80 in the FIBA Europe Cup in Wednesday night's game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 10 rebounds. Ironi Hai Motors Nes-Ziona (4-2) is placed third in group J. There are only two games left until the end of the FIBA Europe Cup Second Stage. So now every game will be important. Zanna's overall stats this season are: 8.7ppg, 5.3rpg and 1.7spg. He plays currently for the Nigerian national team.

Point guard Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (180-86, college: CS Fullerton, currently plays in South Korea) contributed to a Goyang Orions' victory against the league outsider Samsung Thunders (10-32) 88-80 in the South Korean KBL last Thursday. Akognon was the top player that evening. He scored 22 points and added 3 passes in a mere 18 minutes. Goyang Orions (21-21) are placed fifth in the KBL. Akognon has very impressive stats this year: 15.7ppg, 1.3rpg and 2.7apg in three games. He has both American and Nigerian nationalities. Akognon is a former international player as he played for the Nigerian senior team three years ago.

Former international forward Abdullahi Kuso (206-84, college: Tallahassee CC, currently plays in Japan) helped Gunma win their game against the fourth-ranked Kanazawa Samuraiz (14-23) crushing them 101-47 in the Japanese B2 League on Friday night. He scored 20 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Gunma Crane Thunders (27-10) are placed first in East group. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This season Kuso has very high stats. He averages: 15.2ppg, 10.6rpg, 3.1apg, 2.1bpg and 1.4spg. Kuso used to play for the Nigerian national team twelve years ago.

Small forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo (199-92, currently plays in Greece) managed to help Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens in a victory against the tenth-ranked Lavrio (4-12) crushing them 80-55 in the Greek A1 in Monday night's game. He recorded 5 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 11 minutes. Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens (15-0) is placed first in the A1. So far his team won all fifteen games in the Regular Season. This year Antetokounmpo's overall stats are: 4.7ppg and 2.6rpg in 12 games. He used to play for the Nigerian national team back in 2016.

Umeh scored 11 points. Polski Cukier Torun (15-3) is placed second in the EBL. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. This season Umeh has relatively solid stats: 13.7ppg, 2.3rpg and 3.1apg. He also holds two passports: Nigerian and American. Umeh used to play for the Nigerian national team three years ago.

Forward Al-Farouq Aminu (206-90, college: Wake Forest, currently plays in NBA) helped Portland Trail Blazers win their game against the San Antonio Spurs (32-25) 127-118 in the NBA last Thursday. He scored 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds (was perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line) in 22 minutes. The Portland Trail Blazers have a solid 33-21 record this season. Aminu is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Trail Blazers' roster. Aminu has reliable stats this season: 9.4ppg, 7.9rpg and 1.2apg in 54 games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Despite Aminu played previously for the USA U19 national team, he is also an international player who is currently on the senior Nigerian National Team roster.

   #11. Former international power forward Suleiman Braimoh (203-89, college: Rice, currently plays in Israel). Braimoh could not help Hapoel Eilat to beat Ironi Nes-Ziona. He scored 9 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished 3 assists. His team was edged 82-80. This season Braimoh has very high stats. He averages: 15.2ppg, 5.4rpg, 1.8apg and 1.4spg. Braimoh holds both American and Nigerian passports. He used to play for the Nigerian national team three years ago.

   #12. Former international forward Melvin Ejim (201-91, college: Iowa St., currently plays in EuroCup) helped his Russian team Unics Kazan win their game against the closely-ranked Andorra 72-53 in the Eurocup in Wednesday night's game. Ejim scored 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 23 minutes. This year his total stats are: 8.3ppg, 3.7rpg and 1.2apg in nine games. Ejim used to play for the Nigerian national team back in 2012.

   #13. Former international power forward Trevor Mbakwe (207-89, agency: Pensack Sports, college: Minnesota, currently plays in Japan) helped Osaka Evessa win their game against the third-ranked Aishin Sea Horses 82-78 in the Japanese B League on Sunday night. Mbakwe scored 17 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 29 minutes. He has averaged so far 9.8ppg, 7.2rpg and 2.2apg in six games. Mbakwe holds both American and Nigerian passports. Despite he played previously for the USA university national team, Mbakwe is currently in the Nigerian national team roster.

   #14. International power forward Christopher Obekpa (208-93, college: UNLV, currently plays in Lebanon) was not able to help Al Riyadi in their game against Beirut Club in the Lebanese LBL. He recorded only 4 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. His team was defeated 80-75. Obekpa averaged so far 10.4ppg, 8.2rpg, 1.4apg and 2.4bpg. He plays currently for the Nigerian national team.

   #15. International guard Keith Omoerah (194-92, agency: Interperformances, college: Manitoba, currently plays in Ukraine) was not able to secure a victory for Mykolaiv (6-6) in their last game. Despite Omoerah's very good performance Mykolaiv was badly defeated 88-72 at home by the leading Khimik. He was the second best scorer with 15 points. Omoerah also added 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 27 minutes. His stats this year are: 13.3ppg, 6.6rpg, 3.0apg and 1.3spg in eight games. Omoerah is also in the roster of the Nigerian national team.


The list of other players, who all have Nigerian passport but never been selected to any of Nigerian national teams:

   #1. Giannis Antetokounmpo (211-G/F-94, agency: Octagon Europe, currently plays in NBA) led Milwaukee Bucks to a victory over the Washington Wizards (22-32) 148-129 in the NBA in Wednesday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Antetokounmpo recorded 43 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals in 31 minutes. The Milwaukee Bucks have a very solid 40-13 record this season. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. It's Antetokounmpo's sixth year with the team. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Antetokounmpo averages: 27.0ppg, 12.4rpg, 5.9apg, 1.4bpg and 1.5spg in 50 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Greek and Nigerian.

   #2. David Kadiri (200-F-95, college: Buffalo, currently plays in Serbia) was the main contributor in a Sloboda Uzice's victory against the 14th-ranked Beovuk 72 (3-16) 93-84 in the Serbian KLS last Saturday. Kadiri was the top player that evening. He recorded 27 points (!!!) and grabbed 7 rebounds in 31 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Kadiri's second season in pro basketball. KK Sloboda Uzice (11-8) is placed fifth in the KLS. It was his team's eighth consecutive victory in a row. This year Kadiri's overall stats are: 9.9ppg, 4.5rpg and 1.1apg in 19 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American.

   #3. Michael Ojo (216-C-93, college: Florida St., currently plays in ABA League) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams P.Olimpija (5-13) crushing them 89-61 in the ABA League on Saturday night. He scored 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Crvena Zvezda MTS Beograd (17-1) is placed first in the ABA League. There are only four games left until the end of the ABA League Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Ojo's overall stats this season are: 8.1ppg and 5.9rpg. Worth to mention Ojo played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

   #4. Abdul-Malik Abu (203-F-95, college: NC State, currently plays in Croatia) contributed to a KK Vrijednosnice Osijek's victory against the closely-ranked Sibenik (5-9) 104-95 in the Croatian Premijer Liga in Monday night's game. He had a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 17 rebounds. Abu also added 5 assists in 33 minutes; not bad, considering it's only his third season in pro basketball. KK Vrijednosnice Osijek (7-7) is placed sixth in the Premijer Liga. This year Abu has relatively solid stats: 15.0ppg, 9.2rpg and 1.5apg in 14 games.

   #5. Tonye Jekiri (213-C-94, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Turkey) was the major contributor in Gaziantep's victory against the 11th-ranked Banvit (6-10) 82-74 in the Turkish BSL last Sunday. He recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 11 rebounds. Gaziantep Basketbol (9-7) is placed fifth in the BSL. This season Jekiri has relatively solid stats: 12.1ppg, 10.7rpg and 1.5apg.

   #6. Danny Agbelese (206-F/C-90, also represented by Octagon Europe, college: Hampton, currently plays in Greece) could not help Holargos (8-8) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Agbelese's good performance Holargos was edged 76-75 at home by the higher-ranked Peristeri GS (#5). He recorded 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Agbelese's total stats this season are: 8.6ppg, 7.4rpg and 1.9bpg. He has both American and Nigerian nationalities.

   #7. Josh Okogie (193-G-98, college: Georgia Tech, currently plays in NBA) was not able to help the Minnesota Timberwolves (25-29) in their last game. Despite Okogie's good performance the Minnesota Timberwolves lost 112-122 on the road to the Orlando Magic. He scored 13 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 29 minutes. This year Okogie has relatively solid stats: 7.4ppg, 3.0rpg and 1.1apg in 46 games. He also holds two passports: Nigerian and American. Despite Okogie's Nigerian nationality, he previously played for the USA U19 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Nigerian team.

   #8. Ike Joseph Udanoh (203-PF-89, college: Wayne St., MI, currently plays in Italy) helped MIA-RO Cantu win their game against the third-ranked Vanoli Cremona 82-66 in the Italian Serie A last Sunday. He scored 8 points, had 12 rebounds and dished 6 assists. Udanoh averaged so far 12.8ppg, 9.1rpg, 4.2apg and 1.9spg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports.

   #9. Micheal Eric (210-C-88, college: Temple, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to secure a victory for Darussafaka (3-19) in their last game on Friday. Despite his good performance the bottom-ranked Darussafaka was defeated 90-78 in Milano by the much higher-ranked Armani (#9). Eric recorded 10 points. He averaged so far 11.4ppg and 5.1rpg.

   #10. TK Edogi (203-F-94, college: Iona, currently plays in Turkey) helped Sakarya BSB win their game against the closely-ranked Buyukcekmece 73-69 in the Turkish BSL in Sunday night's game. Edogi scored 12 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in a mere 16 minutes. He has averaged so far 10.0ppg and 5.2rpg in six games. Edogi holds both American and Nigerian passports.
